The learning process of trying to get smart things to be more use than they are trouble. This is a Yale deadbolt that is supposedly Z-wave. So I have a Samsung hub that is used to talk to Z-wave device. I can see this lock and a Kwikset one on the app, but the Yale does something odd. When you change the state of the Kwickset one, it works and the app will tell you if it is lock or unlocked. The Yale, will change from unlocked to lock when you tell it to, but almost immediately the indication goes to ‘unlocked’, will the physical lock doesn’t change at all. I am not sure of why this behaves this way. Examing the Samsung smartthings log it shows “Locked” at a particular time and then immediately indicates that it is “unlocked,” at the same time as the first locked indication. So the actual state of the lock in really unknown. The Kwikset lock, in contrast, keeps track of its state.
I think this whole ‘smart home’ stuff is so much like Rube Goldburg construction. It seems like nothing works well with each other. I need to go off and find out what the difference between Z-wave and Z-wave plus and which my Yale lock has vs what the Samsung hub has.
