hapi/yur?
Hell yeah, let's have some soft comfort.
Hapi sat quietly on top of one of the larger pieces of stone in the rubble. They'd managed to take the Kingdom capital. The Archbishop was vanquished. 'Cornelia' was no more.
The battle was won.
But the war, she knew very well, was far from over.
As she looked up at the sky, trying to piece together constellations, Hapi failed to notice someone come to sit beside her until she felt a wooden cup be slipped into her hand. The warmth soothed her fingers, and the smell was bitter, yet delicate.
"Dandelion?" she asked.
"Yep. By order of her Majesty's personal dog." Yuri smiled, moving in a bit closer. "He said he'll prepare you some proper coffee once we get back to Enbarr."
"Remind me to thank the Bert after I get my coffee." She took a sip of her drink, and fought hard not to sigh in contentment. The flavor was similar to coffee, but not quite the same. Definitely needed a longer roast.
Yuri drank his own, wincing at the taste. "I don't know how you can drink this stuff. It tastes like dirt."
Hapi snorted. "And how would you know? Eat dirt often?"
"Only when sparring with you and Constance to keep my magic sharp." He looked at her, and noticed her eyes were glossy and distant. "Hey. You alright?"
"I'll be fine," she assured. "Just....might need to step out into the woods for a bit. Get some frustration out."
"I'll come with you."
"Nah, you don't need to. I can handle this." She took another sip. "After my dandy coffee."
Yuri nodded slowly. "Then can I get a penny for your thoughts?"
She shrugged. "Just thinking about how much longer to go, that's all. A few more battles to fight."
"We just finished a battle not even two hours ago."
"Yeah, but there's still more." She huffed harshly. It was the closest she could allow herself to sigh. "The Bert asked me something before this fight. He asked if I would join him on the battlefield against Thales in their base."
"He finally located it, huh?" Yuri's eyes went wide. "Wait. You're not actually considering this. Right?"
She shrugged. "Still haven't decided yet. To be honest, I'm tired of the fighting. But....I need to get this curse eased off me. And if we can find something in the home base, then what choice do I have?"
Yuri sighed, and put an arm around her shoulders. "Well, if you do end up going, you better believe I'm coming with you."
"You'll get hurt, Yuribird."
"This is war. What's a little pain if it means I can personally skewer the people who helped hurt one of my own?"
Hapi smiled, leaning into his side. "We already killed her."
"She has friends."
"Yeah, but mine are better."
"You're goddamn right about that."
Hapi finished her drink, forcing out a yawn.
The war was far from over. But it would be over in her lifetime.
For now, that was enough.
