really good article describing the “validation feedback loop” that keeps people addicted to social media.  I recognize this habit within my own usage.  According to the article, “the social networking site exploits human psychological vulnerabilities through a validation feedback loop that gets people to constantly post to get even more likes and comments. “It’s exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you’re exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology,” he said. “The inventors, creators — it’s me, it’s Mark [Zuckerberg], it’s Kevin Systrom on Instagram, it’s all of these people — understood this consciously. And we did it anyway.” 

A photo of Mark Zuckerberg’s recent time in court, which circulated news media and social networks (including his own, facebook), heavily during the time of the trial.  many people made memes of him because he looked relatively uneasy during the deliberation.  I included one referencing curiosity and the tendency to “facebook stalk” people by reviewing their old content.  

A contrast to the last post, this Clickbait-style article is about decentralized social networks.  I watched a number of decentralized social networks fail (vero, recently) but i’ve never heard of Sola, mastodon, diaspora, or minds.

FOSTA is an oppressive bill that targets sex workers that has already caused a change in skype’s appropriate use policy, banning any nudity on skype.  To monitor this, radical privacy invasions will occur.

Facebook confirmed this month that they scan links and images and read chats when they’re flagged, making sure content follows the guidelines of appropriate use.  This is sketchy because as someone who signed facebook’s terms of service, your chat data can become accessible (if it’s not already, which would not be surprising) as soon as they decide to change their policy to allow for analysis of said chat logs

From what I understand, this article is from a (thankfully) anti-fascist militia site, but nevertheless, it’s still a good read!
