As the DM for a group that has been going for about 2 years now I would like to just tell you guys a little story about the most obnoxious PC in my group that constantly has me stressed out and at the same time I am so proud of her. 

Our Sorceress.

The rest of the team is fairly tanky, 2 beefy fighters, a Monk, a bard and a pretty good ranger. I’ve noticed, especially recently, that our little Sorceress just tends to hang behind the tanks, not really drawing attention to herself. Now, I as the DM know exactly what she is capable of, but I gotta play the enemies and they obviously are going to focus on the threats, which are usually the Ranger shooting arrows, the tanks smashing their faces and the Bard throwing out spells like Hideous Laughter, so the Sorceress tends to go unnoticed and just throws out a little baby cantrip here or there to help out but never really uses any of her spell slots. 

The only time this little glass canon uses any of her spells, I’ve noticed, is when the enemies position themselves in perfect little clumps that, granted when I’m controlling a lot of enemies at once I tend to not notice these clumps happen, but she does, at which point she unleashes hell. She will hold onto her sorcerer points and her most powerful spells for these moments and instead of a little frost bolt on one enemy, I find a massive clump of enemies being pelted with 2 fire balls at once, or two Ice Knifes (a favorite of hers) or a shit ton of scorching rays thanks to her Quickened Spell meta magic. 

She is this little nuke on the field that I know holds the power to destroy so much and she just bides her time long enough that I FORGET ABOUT HER and then she punishes me for it.

So many times the players will get out of a fight and everyone is beaten up and rolling hit dice but there is our little untouched sorceress coming around the corner with all of her spell slots, ready to destroy my final boss fights once the team gets there.

There is no soothing-- only rage.

Bit of our D&D game from this past Friday in which one of my players who was bitten my a werewolf is finally able to try and free herself from the Curse. (I changed how the curse works for my game, more of a slow burn, plenty of time to mess with her)

It’s like, I love watching my players characters grow in this world and learn and change, but I’m also watching this world grow with these characters and change with them, and that’s really cool.
