he did a bunch of interviews on wednesday explaining that the song is based on a dream he had that he'd fucked up the relationship and left. he said he was panicked upon waking, absolutely destroyed, and ali simply laughed at him. he ran with the inspiration, the idea being that he'd paint a picture of what PJ described above.

Any thoughts on the “Why am I walking away” lyric of YTBTAM? It’s continually been described as a love song and as joyous, but like most U2 songs it seems to be more complicated than that, with undertones of questioning. So...does walking away mean going on tour? Bono spending so much of his life away from Ali? It sounds very breakup-like but god I don’t even want to think about a BAli divorce. Or is it a less literal line about their relationship changing? Or is it himself he’s walking away from?
