#25 for drabble requests if you're still taking them!
Thank you so much for the request darling!
25: “Tell me a secret?”
You and Austin had been friends for years before you started dating.
And in those years, you had developed a sort of code.
Whenever you needed reassurance, like when you were in high school and were terrified about a presentation but didn’t want to say that out loud in a busy hallway, you instead said “Tell me a secret?”
And Austin would lean down and whisper into your ear that “You’re gonna be fine, you’ve got all the info you need and I’ll be right there in the second row if you need someone to stare at.”
But to everyone else it would look like you were just sharing some sort of juicy gossip.
So that brings you to now: sitting next to your boyfriend, rising star Austin Butler, about to step onto your first red carpet at the premiere of Elvis. You try to push down your anxiety, knowing that Austin must already be terrified himself and not wanting to affect him with your own worries, but as you step out of the car you instantly freeze at the sight of what must be hundreds of paparazzi and reporters in front of you.
Austin takes your hand and tries to step forward, but you squeeze his hand, trying to signal to him that you’re absolutely terrified right now. He turns back to you, making sure the cameras don’t catch the concern on his face, and you lean in so your face is out of view of the paparazzi and whisper.
“Tell me a secret?”
He keeps a practiced smile on his face, though his eyes soften as he squeezes your hand in return and leans down to whisper in your ear, as though he’s just making sure you can hear him, “You’re alright. I know it’s a lot but I’m right here and I’m not gonna let you go, okay?”
You nod, hoping he can see the gratitude and love in your eyes as he pulls back, turning on that practiced smile, and turn on your own smile as you finally step onto the carpet.
