What is your measure of success? When do you know you’ve “made it?” Growing up, I got messages that “successful” meant six-figures, straight A’s, everyone liking me, being attractive to the opposite sex, and achieving an unattainable body shape and size. I don’t remember anything on the cover of Cosmo or on 90210 talking about finding meaning or being a good human. Why do you think that is? Probably because it’s too nuanced and abstract. Being a good human isn’t as sexy or captivating as power, pleasure, pain, and drama. According to Viktor Frankl, in his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, we tend to compensate the “will to meaning” with striving for power (money, fame, prestige) or pleasure(sex, drugs, food). These are more primitive and therefore much easier to access, but don’t give us that will to live that everyone needs. Instead, I invite you to make your future self proud by intentions like: - being gentle with yourself and others - leaving people better than you found them - building and sharing abundance - being present with your loved ones - holding your tongue when you want to scream at someone - holding your chin high and trying again even when you stumble - learning something new every day - making a human connection every day What is YOUR measure of success?
