The schoolhouse was in an overgrown field behind a broken down and mangled chain-link fence. The grass was tall here and partial to whispering when the wind came running through the reeds. Bees and wild herbs churned in the waves of chlorophyll green.Â
As for the schoolhouse itself? It sat atop the slope and every broken window was lit with a single candle tonight. Candles which cast bizarre shadows about themselves and led the eye to the bonfire buzzing and bustling on the naked earth between the schoolhouse and Grim’s chapel.  It was hot, leaving the skin pink if one ventured too close for too long, and the smoke left a charred scent which spiraled in the wind and eventually died on the doorstep of the moon.
Seventh himself was an odd sight in the night. He was out of his black-on-black combat-ready uniform. In its stead he was in pastels, his clothing loose and flowing, his shirt slipping off his shoulder and leaving it naked. His feet were sandaled, not booted, and his hands had rings and bracelets not fingerless gloves. His hair had been braided; all flowers and beads dangling out of it. He looked every bit the strumpet, the gypsy, and it was a strangely vulnerable look for him to take on. He didn’t look imposing, he looked wild, even a little lost.Â
