Declan is Sick
It had been a long day. Declan had woken up at four in the morning with his fever, and it had only gotten worse from there. Evie called her mum, who sent her to her Aunt Clara, who told her that it was okay to give him a watered down version of a potion which Evie luckily had on hand. His headache was probably the worst part, because every so often he would just look at her with his sad brown eyes, saying, "Mummy, my brain hurts." The woman fed him some cocoa, the only thing that he could keep down, and tried to keep him wrapped up and warm. But near four thirty in the afternoon, as they laid on the couch watching one of Declan's favorite movies, suddenly she felt his little body start to breathe more regularly. She smiled down at him, kissing the top of his forehead... And then before she knew it, Evie herself was fast asleep.
Owen was at work all day working on some complicated negotiation with the Bulgarian ministry. Even after all that has happened including a completely new government they were still having issues. Owen finished typing a serious and pressing letter to the Bulgarian Minister for Magic as his father walked into his office. He looked up at his father groaning before putting his head on the desk. "Fucking Bulgaria." Marcus smiled at his son shaking his head before hitting him upside the head much like his own mother did to him. "No swearing. Nice to know they are still consistently a pain in the arse." Owen rolled his eyes at his father. "Arse is also a swear word just so you know. Yes at least they are consistent." Owen spotted a bag in his father's hands so he pointed at it. "What's in the bag?" Marcus smiled a little placing the package on his desk. "I heard that Declan wasn't feeling well so I made some homemade soup with all the vegetables that are good for sensitive stomachs. Having a sick two year old is never fun for anyone involved." Owen smiled at his dad nodding. "Thanks, dad. I appreciate that." Marcus excused himself since he had to get back to the training center. Owen looked up at the clock to see it was six o'clock which was a good time to head home. He packed up his briefcase before sending the owl to Bulgaria and picking up the soup to take home for Declan. Once he arrived home he realized it was dark and quiet so he tiptoed into the living room to see his beautiful wife and son sleeping on the ouch together. He could see two mugs of what looked like was cocoa on the coffee table. He smiled at how peaceful and asleep the were. He placed the soup on the table before walking over to them making sure the blanket was around them completely before giving them both soft kisses on the forehead.
Evie thought she was hearing sounds, small ones, but she couldn't tell if they were real of her imagination. Or maybe she was dreaming... that could have been it. Her arms tightened around her son a bit, before she felt the blanket being pulled up to cover her. Her eyes flitted open just as Owen kissed her forehead. "Hi," she said quietly, her voice just a breath. She realized that her arm was asleep underneath Declan's body, but she was scared to move it. "Can I have another kiss?" she asked him carefully, but she felt the boy start to stir anyway. He squirmed, and she made sure that he didn't fall off the couch before his own eyes opened. "Daddy?" he asked, sitting up slowly and then holding out his arms for the man in front of him.
Owen smiled at his wife leaning over to give her another kiss just like she requested it a soft gentle kiss that was soon interrupted by their little boy. He heard Declan calling out to him which made Owen beam with absolute pride. "How you feeling little man?" He took Owen in his arms pulling him up from the sofa so that he could kiss him on the cheek. The little boy hid his head in his father's neck as he put his arms around his neck tightly. "Head hurts a bit." Owen kissed the top of his head. "Maybe kisses will make it feel better." He gave his son three kisses on the head causing Declan to squeal out in laughter before hiding his face in his neck again. Owen looked at Evie, "did you end up taking him to see your Aunt Clara?" Owen picked up the back of soup and walked over into the kitchen with Declan. "You hungry? Grandpa Marcus made you some special soup to make you feel better."
Evie closed her eyes as he kissed her, only to have to lean back as Declan got excited about seeing his dad. She watched both of them with a smile on her face, loving how perfect they looked. When her husband addressed her, she nodded slowly. "Well, she came over here for a spell before she had to be at St. Mungos. She had me give him a little bit of potion, but she said too much wouldn't settle well with him." Evie stood up to follow after the both of them, leaning against the doorframe as she watched Owen start to pull out the soup. Declan made a face at the mention of food, until Marcus' name popped up, and he stuck out his bottom lip. "I could try it..." he suggested, and Evie laughed, walking over to him and kissing him on the cheek. "Do you want me to warm it up, love?" she asked Owen, since his arms were full.
Owen nodded and listened to what Evie said about what her Aunt said about Declan's health. "Glad she came over to check it out." He looked at his son to see what he thought about eating Owen could see the internal war going on inside his little head. Soon though he agreed to try eating causing Owen to smile. "Yes, that would be brilliant." Declan held his father tightly as Owen walked him gently around the kitchen. "Grandpa Marcus said that its a soup that should make your tummy feel better, little man. Did mummy take good care of you?" Declan nodded his head giving Owen a slight smile. "She gave me hot cocoa, hugs, kisses, med..medicine...and watched a movie." Owen smiled at his wife then at Declan.
Evie nodded, grabbing the soup off the table and opening up the bag to grab the container out. She thought about microwaving it, but decided that it would take too long and she couldn't gauge the temperature well enough. So she pulled out her wand and used a spell her father had taught her for when she was heating up milk, when Declan was a baby. The soup was warm in a second, and she grabbed down a bowl and poured a little bit into it, before she took the bowl to the table. "You want to sit by yourself and try to eat, Declan?" she asked him, only he shook his head and clung tighter to Owen. Evie nodded. "Come on then. Daddy can hold you and I'll help you eat." She yawned as she sat down at the table, smiling at her husband as he began to walk over.Β
Owen felt Declan cling tighter to him as Evie asked him if he wanted to eat alone. This always happened on weekdays usually, because Owen was gone for so long at work by the time he got back Declan wanted Daddy time before he had to sleep. Owen smiled and sat at the table so that Evie could help their son eat. Owen kissed his boy on the top of the head. "Smells good doesn't it Declan?' he nodded his head.
Evie chopped the vegetables up smaller, even though they looked like Marcus had already prepared them small enough... You could never be too careful. Declan opened his mouth and let Evie feed him a bit, about half of the bowl, before he shook his head. "My tummy doesn't want anymore, Mummy..." He turned to curl into Owen's chest, and Evie sighed. She let the spoon rest in the bowl and then reached over to touch his forehead. "His head's still a little hot..." she whispered, biting on her lip. "If he could just get to sleep, I know it'd help..." Just then, Declan let out a big yawn, then his eyes fluttered. "But I'm not tired," he said, looking up at Owen like he was going to save him.
Owen watched as Evie prepared his soup and fed Declan the soup. It was absolutely sweet and made Owen feel such pride for his little family. Declan then said he had enough he ate far more than Owen thought he would so he was pleased that he got some nutrients in him. Evie felt his forehead saying he still felt a bit warm. Once sleeping was brought up Declan appealed to his father to see if he had to. Owen kissed his forehead then looked Declan in the eyes. "How about this? We'll put you on the couch with a blanket and pillow." Owen knew Declan was tired and figured that he would fall asleep soon enough. Owen got up and laid him on the sofa placing the blanket on him. "I want Monks." Monks was the name of Declan's stuff monkey so Owen reached over picking up Monks so that he could hold him. Owen kissed Declan on the forehead before sitting on the floor in front of the sofa facing the movie that they were watching before.
When her boys stood up to go into the living room, Evie stayed in the kitchen and cleaned up. The rest of his soup went down the garbage disposal, and then the container went into the fridge so he could have more of it tomorrow. Evie thought about making some more cocoa, but she yawned again and decided that making it now would only result in a disaster. So she trudged into the living room, smiling down at her little boy on the couch with his monkey clutched tightly. His eyes were already closed, but they opened to look at her for a second. "G'night Mummy. G'night Daddy. I love you..." he said, to which Evie smiled, bending over to kiss his hand. "I love you too, baby." Declan didn't respond, and Evie sat down on the floor beside Owen, leaning over onto him. "I'm not tired either," she said, the corner of her mouth curling up.
Owen smiled at his son as he said goodnight and that he loved them. "Love you too, little man." Evie sat on the floor next to Owen who placed an arm around her pulling her closer to him. He smiled when she said she wasn't tired. "Of course not. Being home alone with a sick two year old isn't exhausting at all." Owen looked to see that Declan was fast asleep. "Maybe I'll carry him upstairs and then we can spend some relaxing time together, yeah?" Owen gently picked up Declan who was dead weight since he was so exhausted. He carried him up the stairs and into his bedroom where Owen rested him gently in his bed. He turned the baby monitor on so that they could hear if he needed them and took the receiver with him as he went to join Evie
Evie nuzzled into her husband as he pulled her closer, nodding into his chest. "Right. It's the easiest thing in the world." She turned her head to their son, and then pushed off of Owen so that he could get up and carry Declan. "Can I run a bubble bath?" she asked him, standing up and following them up the stairs, but took the detour to their own bedroom. She stepped through to their master bath, starting to fill the huge bath tub with warm water and a good amount of bubbles. Evie tied her hair up, and then began to undress, yawning as she did so.
Owen nodded his head at Evie's suggestion. "Sounds good, love. Be there soon." He made sure that Declan was safe and sound before making his way to their bathroom. He walked into the bathroom to see his wife undressing as the bathtub was filling up. He smiled to himself placing the receiver on the counter so they could hear their son if he called out to them. He turned to look at Evie giving her a smile. "You're beautiful in case I didn't say it today." Owen was still wearing his work clothes so he began by shaking off his shoes and taking off his suit jacket.
The sound of Owen's voice woke Evie from a little trance she had gone into. She was only in her underwear now, but she hurried over to him and reached up to kiss him on the cheek. "I wanna do your tie..." she said, reaching up to unknot the tie and slide it out from around his neck. Then she began to unbutton his shirt, placing a kiss on the little bit of skin that she revealed with each button. Once she had done that, she pulled away, turning to stop the water before it rose over the top of the tub. She stuck her hand down in the water, swirling it around. "It's so warm..."
Owen nodded as Evie said she wanted to do his tie. It was something she always did and seemed to love to do even when they were just having sex with one another. She walked over and expertly undid his tie before unbuttoning his shirt with a trail of soft kisses as she did each button causing him to close his eyes. He leaned down to kiss her bare shoulder before she turned off the water. Owen unbuttoned and unbuckled his pants letting them fall to the ground and soon after his boxers joined them. Owen walked over to the tub to feel the water. "It is warm." Owen got into the tub and quickly ducked his head under the water before resurfacing.
Evie watched her husband duck into the water as she undid her bra, letting it fall to the ground as she bent over to slide off her knickers. Then she stepped into the bath carefully, sinking down on the opposite side of him, making sure to keep her head above the water. her feet ran along his legs as she spread out, leaning her head back against the edge of the tub. "Merlin, I needed this. Something to justβ¦melt away everything else." She smiled at him, closing her eyes as she let the water start to relax her weary muscles.
Owen felt Evie get into the tub with him he smiled as he could feel her legs run along side his own. "I needed this as well. Work was rather stressful today. Though coming home to you and Declan asleep on the couch made things better." He leaned against the tub letting the warm water relax his muscles.
She frowned at his words. "I forgot to ask you about work today." She bit down on her lip, shaking her head as she sat up a bit and moved over to that she was sitting on his lap. "I'm sorry you had a bad day," she whispered into his ear, letting her hands trail behind his back where they began to work to massage his muscles, hoping that the water as well as her caresses could ease all the stress. Her chest pressed into his, and she rested her head on his shoulder, turned into his neck, where she planted a gentle kiss.
"That's okay, love. You also had your hands full today with a sick Declan." He felt his wife move closer to him resting in his lap which made him smile slightly. He shivered at the touch of her hands on his skin massaging his tense muscles. "It's okay. My day turned around rather quickly once I came home." He closed his eyes as he felt soft lips against his neck. He kissed here forehead gently before bringing her face p to his to kiss her on the lips softly before deepening the kiss before resting his forehead on hers. "So...how would you like to be married to potentially the senior assistant of the head of International Magical Cooperation?" Owen knew what this promotion meant he was being groomed and trained to be a viable choice for head of the department in the following election year but he didn't want to get ahead of himself.
Evie smiled into his neck as he said his day turned around, and she sighed happily. "I'm glad that the sight of your exhausted family does such wonderful things for you," she teased, using her teeth to bite into his neck playfully. He pulled her away to plant a kiss on her lips, which Evie responded to greedily before he stopped it. She gave a little whine, but listened as he spoke. Her eyebrows scrunched together. "Well... what does that mean... for you? Work wise? More...hours? And stress?" she tried to keep the worry out of her voice, because she knew that this could be a really good thing for him. And she knew that Owen was fantastic at his job, and he did a lot of good. Still, she couldn't help but have a little bit of fear that he'd be around even less; because Evie didn't know if she could handle that.
"It does extraordinary things for me. Because you two are the most important people in my life so seeing you happy or peacefully sleeping makes me feel rather content with my life." Owen kissed Evie on the cheek. Owen looked at Evie as she asked what this meant. "Definitely more responsibility and definitely more headaches. It also means I get more sway, influence, and I might be able to get some of the ideas that my dad and your brothers talked about through as well. It means I get to oversee the International Confederation of Wizards when a conferences are held. It might mean extra hours if something happens but I try my best to leave at six or earlier because my family meaning you and Declan means more to me than anything else. Always, love." Owen kissed Evie on the lips softly.
Evie grinned. "You did do pretty well for yourself, didn't you? I never would have expected you to be so successful, back when you were such an awkward young teenager." She rubbed her nose against his, to show that she was teasing. As he spoke, she met his eyes, listening carefully to every word. It was a good thing, it really was, and she felt a surge of pride for him. Just the other day Oliver had been talking to her about how well Owen did, and this meant big things for him. She smiled, responding to his kiss, before she pulled away. "Then nothing would make me prouder than being married to the head of International Magical Cooperation," she assured him. She kissed him again, letting her hands come up to the back of his neck. "But this also probably means that we should finally redo the kitchen, because I'm going to be hosting dinners, aren't I?"
Owen smirked at his wife as she teased him. "This is why you should have said yes from the beginning." After Evie pulled away from the kiss she began to talk about how proud she was of him. For a second he became bashful at her words but gave her a slight smile nevertheless. He responded to her kiss placing his hands on her waist as he brought her closer to him. She pulled away though asking about redoing the kitchen. Owen laughed shaking his head at her. "No... you don't have to do anything, love. We can always go to restaurants if you wish." He leaned over to kiss her neck lightly.
She shook her head. "If I would have done that, you never would have learned how fantastic it feels to work so hard for something worthwhile." To placate him that time, she laughed and gave him a bright smile. Owen brought her even closer to him, the water moving around them, as Evie let out a contented sigh. "Well... I do feel like we'd make a stronger impression if we went out to dinners. Since I can't cook worth a fuck." His lips on her neck felt so good, and she moaned into his touch, letting her hands run down his chest. Then she stopped, hearing the little, "Mummy? Daddy?" coming from the receiver.
He smiled at Evie nodding his head but giving a bit of a shrug at the same. "I don't know you have improved in the cooking department a bit." Evie's hands began to wander as Owe moved his lips down her neck softly before capturing her lips in a passionate kiss. The moment was interrupted by the voice of Declan through the receiver. Owen groaned a little bit kissing Evie on the lips. "I'll check on him. You've had to take care of him all day." Owen gently moved Evie over so that he could gently get up. He quickly through on a pair of boxers as well as a tank top before heading to Declan's room. "Daddy!" Owen smiled picking up Declan from his bed gently rocking him as he clung around his neck.
Evie nodded to Owen, smiling at his groan, but moving out of his way so that he could get to their son. She figured that bath time was over, so she started to drain the water, reaching out for a towel as she dried herself off. Then she walked into the bedroom and pulled out one of Owen's big t-shirts, and a pair of her shorts. She walked across to Declan's room, leaning against the door frame again as she watched her husband rock him. "I can lay down with him, Owen. So you can get some rest." She looked at her husband with concern, knowing that Declan probably wouldn't sleep well through the night. But he'd probably do better if someone was there.
