Usually, Mary noticed things and it had been a miracle she didn’t notice Duke’s different behavior past few weeks. He didn’t remember, exactly, how it had started (Duke was sure it had something to do with helping Nathan and Audrey here and there), but one moment there was no addiction, nothing there. And then, then his trouble was affecting him at full force, an insatiable need.

Really, it was a miracle Mary hadn’t noticed before. But now that Mary had, Duke’d have to do something about it. Otherwise, she might open her mouth and the wrong people’d know what was going to know, aiming for his head on a silver plate.  

“It’s– it’s nothing.” Duke took a look at the room, the place really was a mess, and added, “I’ll clean this mess. You go do… whatever you do.”
