Gil’s aversion to hunting is not from his fathers lack of trying though. Gaston took Gil out on hunts repeatedly as a boy. And while they were out he would tell him terrifying tales of the beast that not only got away, but got his girl and locked him away on the ailse to rot. The stories use to scare Gil until during to hunt, his father spotted a “beast” and told Gil to aim his gun at it and kill him. But when not- so- little eight year old Gil lined this “beast” up in his scope all he saw was a wolf cub digging in the dirt, and well long story short he refused to kill it and Gaston got angry and tried to shoot it himself, but a Gil pushed the barrel of his gun away just in time. The misfired shot scared the cub and he ran away. Gaston tried to take Gil hunting a few more times after that as he got older, but Gil always refused to kill any of the animals - not beasts- he saw and prevented his father from killing them too. Gaston finally gave up. After his last attempt at getting Gil to hunt failed Gaston lost his patience for the last time. “Imagine me!” He yelled, “Gaston! The greatest hunter, the most handsome eligible bachelor in all of France! Father to a boy who won’t hunt, doesn’t like to hurt or kill things (I imagine he has a very dramatic mocking tone here). A BOY who doesn’t even like GIRLS! A disgrace! A disappointment! Being your father is ten times the punishment being banished to this aisle could ever be!” That’s the last time Gil ever spoke to his father. He left his house that night and never looked back. Only Uma and Harry know the full story of what happened between Gil and his father, and only they know how many tears he shed over his fathers cruel words.

Until he and Harry followed the VK’s and jumped through the gap in the barrier as it was closing behind them. Until he came to Auradon, until he met -really met- Jay, ate food off a bush, made a friend, traveled the world and fell in love.

Anyway that was a really long post to say that Gil is a vegetarian lol

But while I’m here might as well add that

Jay and Gil are totally a newfangled (gay) Jasmine and Aladdin! Okay that whole “gap year”, “travel the world together”, “chest bump” scene is just how gay, jock, teen boys sing a Whole New World to each other. Jay is obviously a recreation of Aladdin and Gil basically radiates chaotic princess energy, okay. Think Arial when she first got legs and was combing her hair with a fork on land. Gil’s so sweet and innocent and soft and Jay heart eyed him the whole movie.

And lastly I’d like to add that even after years of living in Auradon, traveling the world together and eating every type of fruit imaginable (and learning the names of all of them) Gil still, always calls “grapes” “cantaloupes”.
