āHold on,ā you exclaimed, rising from Robinās arms, āyouāre telling me, youāve never kissed a girl?ā
Robin laughed, āI mean, yeah. Youāll be my first ever⦠anything. Iāve only had āexperienceā with romance from watching soapy romance films; and perhaps, third-wheeling one of Steveās dates.ā
You fell back into her arms, looking up to her, āTell me, what else?ā
āWhat else? I, uh, hm.ā Robin muttered, trying to think of something, anything she mightāve forgotten.
Her head shook in embarrassment, āIāve never held hands with a girl,ā
You leaped up from her arms again, āNo. Way.ā
āWhat?ā She questioned, slightly tilting her head.
āYouāre telling me that I let you get away with not holding hands the entire time weāve been together? My god, Buckley, I feel like I barely know you,ā
Robin burst out laughing, āI mean, weāve only been dating for a week. Plus, youāve got to... study for your exams; Iām not getting in the way of that!ā
You shook your finger, clicking your tongue. āNope, you could never get in the way of anything, Buckley.ā
Your hands stuck to your hips as your eyes scanned around her room. Eventually, you reverted your focus on her. It was obvious she was conjuring up a valid explanation. It was also clear to you how insanely cute she was.
āCould it be,ā you started, taking a seat on the edge of her bed, āyouāre just⦠not used to it?ā
Her face told you all you needed to know; Her eyes were screwed shut, and her hands were still frozen in that thinking position. She slowly nodded.
While you were observing her, you began to realize that you were happy that youād be her first. You were happy that your relationship with Robin would bloom into something beautiful with time.
Robinās lips parted slowly, āThis might be silly but... since weāre dating, does that mean I can hold your hands whenever I want?"
You crawled back to her, gently taking her hands into yours. āOf course you can hold my hands whenever you want. Weāll take it slow. Whatever time you need, Iāll be with you.ā
Robinās eyes locked with yours, her cheeks were dusted pink. You couldnāt help but smile at her.
You brought her hands to your chest, clasping them softly. Her hands were warm.
Robin leaned forward, planting a kiss on your forehead, āIām glad youāre my first everything.ā

part i you are here! .. part ii
āWill you be my girlfriend?ā Her words were laced with falsity, and drowned out by the upbeat, party music. The nature of the question barely resembled the scenarios youāve dreamt of at night. However, your heart favored ignorance over the truth.
You looked in her eyes, the absence of affection was clear. You dived through them, searching for a meager pearl of endearment towards you. Her ocean was bare in the thought of you, yet you dived in them over and over again.
āYou donāt have to do this, y/n.ā Robin whispered, her eyes scanning the room. You followed her gaze, locking on the ginger girl.
āIāmā¦ā you shook your head, your heart weakened at the idea of Robinās disappointment, āI canāt⦠Fine, Iāll be your girlfriend⦠for tonight.ā
Her head sprung up, and her eyes twinkled. The pearl you were looking for. It glistened right in front of you, yet was reserved for another.
āThank you. Oh, thank you, y/n, oh my goodness. Thank you!ā Robin cried, pulling you into a hug. You yelped, pawing at her shoulders
āWait, Robs, I canāt breathe,ā you gasped.
āām sorry,ā she instantly apologized, releasing you from her embrace. āYou okay? Sorry, I think I got ahead of myself.ā
Her fingers caught a tear slipping from your eye, āGeez, did my hug really get you that bad?ā
You managed to let out a chuckle, wiping the remaining tears away from your eyes.
āCome with me,ā Robinās hand held a grasp on your wrist, tugging you to the center of the party.
The bass thumped rhymically through your body. āDance with me,ā Robinās lips read, her voice barely coherent. You followed her lead, closing your eyes and letting loose.
Robinās arms snaked around your waist. With widened eyes, you looked up at her. She didnāt say a word. Your eyes averted her gaze, coincidentally meeting with Vickieās. Right. This was all for her.
You looked back up at Robin. Her stare lowered. You thought to yourself, since this was the only night youād play pretend with Robin, youād do anything sheād ask.
Nearing the end of the song, Robinās arms retreated from your body, your eyes trailed up to Robin. Her cheeks were flushed from the heat of the dance floor, her hips swaying almost elegantly, and she was slowly swallowed up by the crowd. You pushed through, desperately trying to catch up with her.
Her back was right against Vickies; although, Robin towered over her. You stood watching, your vision obscured by people pushing by. It was as if she was glowing, as if she found where she wanted to be.
Vickie turned around, finally noticing the girl behind her. She laughed, tapping her on the shoulder. Robin turned, greeting her with a smile. Vickieās eyes dove right in. She whispered something in Robinās ear, a twinkle gleamed in Robin's eyes. Robin responded before she noticed you; slowly making her way towards you.
āHey, um, thanks again for tonight,ā she beamed, taking your hand in hers. āYouāre an amazing actor, you know.ā
āMhm,ā you squeezed her hands with yours.
āI got to go now, Vickieās bringing me to the after-party. Can you believe it? An after-party for a party?ā She chuckled, looking down at her shoes.
āSee you later?ā
āYeah, see you,ā you felt her step away, her hands letting go of yours.
You waved her off as she jogged over to Vickie. You watched their hands intertwining, your hands left empty.

āOne vanilla fudge cone and one cookies nā cream cone to go, please!ā
āWow, Miss Ice-Cream Expert, you remembered my favorite,ā you tease, following Robin over to a table. āI wonder, what else do you remember?ā
āLetās seeā¦ā Robin starts, plopping down in a seat, āyou love to collect cute lilā dolls, you love to cuddle, you love picnics, andāā
āOkay, okay, you know enough,ā you chuckle, taking the seat across from Robin. āSo, whatās up?ā
āHm?ā Robin tilts her head, āOh, um, nothing much. Just wanted to, uh, talk.ā
You nod your head, āAh, okay. Whatchaā wanna do after getting our cones?ā
Robin hums, posing as if she was deep in thought. You canāt help but notice her burning, crimson ears exposed for the whole world to see. Thatās when you notice her earrings: the earrings you had made for her birthday months prior, the dangling earrings with pink flowers meticulously attached at the ends. And thatās when you notice her hairstyle: freshly groomed hair, it was pinned behind her ears, and decorated with hair clips you had gifted her early in your friendship. You suddenly thought about the first day you had met.
* * *
It was any other day at the Starcourt. Steve Harrington was chasing out all the ladies, yet drawing them all to the parlor. You, however, were drawn to the sweet and tasty scoops of ice cream the parlor had to offer. Steve had retreated to the back, forcing Robin to take the front.
āHi, welcome to Scoops Ahoy, what can I get for you-ā Robinās greeting was cut short as she looked up at you. Her cheeks had been splashed with pink.
āUm⦠may I try your new flavor, cookies nā cream?ā you answered, flashing a smile at the cashier.
āYeah, totally, just um, give me a moment, please,ā she smiled back, rapidly retreating back into the kitchen.
After a moment of quiet bickering from the kitchen, Robin returned to you, her face completely red this time.
She cleared her throat, āWe need to, uh, get the new batch of cookies nā cream out, so weāll get your ice cream out as soon as possible. In the meantime would you like to have a chat with ā I mean, have a seat? It would be a ten minute wait,ā Robin gave you an awkward smile. You could tell how nervous she was, so you decided to take a chance on her.
āSure, Iād like to have a chat,ā you returned the smile.
Since then, you two were inseparable; Robin was hanging out with you anytime she could.
āOh, yeah, sure,ā You smile at her, the moment interrupted by your order being called.
You get up and follow Robin once again. She hastily grabs the cones, handing you yours, and escorts you out of Scoops Ahoy. You take note of Robinās attempt to increase the pace of your day out with her. The two of you began walking around Starcourt, stiffly admiring the garments that neither of you could ever afford.
āRobin, is everything okay?ā You manage to squeak out after taking a lick of your cone. āI mean, youāve just been acting a bit odd today.ā
Robinās eyes darted back and forth between you and her cone. āFuck it, okay, I can do this,ā she exhales. She pulls you into a hallway, right next to Victoriaās Secret, and looks you dead in the eyes.
āI like you,ā she blurts out. Her eyes scan yours in an attempt to pry your feelings out before you can even say a word. āYou⦠you donāt have to like me back, I know how things are here. But, I just couldnāt hold it in anymore. I just have this big fat crush on you; I couldnāt even seem normal around you anymore. To be honest, I liked you the moment you ordered the cookies nā cream cone the day we had it imported in. I even went to Steve for advice. I go crazy thinking about you. Iāve lost, what, more than six hours of sleep? I swear, youāre either the reason why I fall asleep, or can barely fall asleep at times. I care for you, truly. I want to be someone you can rely on for more than just cuddles. I want you to rely on me for my love and my feelings for you; that my love is able to bring you happiness. I⦠I just wanted you to know, you know?ā
You were totally lost in her eyes. Although you were completely entranced, you soaked in every word that left her mouth. It wasnāt until the sudden drop of melted ice cream on your hand did you come back to reality.
Following your trance halting to a stop, which felt like eternity for Robin, a response left your lips.
āI like you too, Ms. Ice-Cream Expert,ā you grinned, holding up your melting ice cream cone. āMy, arenāt you dangerous; you can melt my heart as easily as this ice cream.ā
Robin placed her forehead against yours, āThank god. I promise to keep melting your heart, if thatās okay with you.ā

The dim, mellow atmosphere of the library threatened your chance of even slightly comprehending the French language. The building was completely silent, other than the slight patter of the fleeting showers lulling you to sleep. Plus, the librarian was the only person in the library other than you and Robin.
āHowās it going, ma chouchoute?āĀ
You jolted at the sudden break of silence as Robin took a seat next to you.
āRobin!ā you shrieked, āOh my god, sorry,ā Your voice quickly retreated from its previous volume. āYou scared me!ā You hissed.
Robinās giggles couldnāt be suppressed as she silently apologized to you. You, yourself, knew you couldn't be mad at her for long; completely disregarding the idea of getting kicked out of the library for the fourth time.
After your numerous attempts of quieting Robin down, you attempted to regain your focus. Even though Robin had her own studying to do, she couldnāt help but study your features instead. Regardless, the burn of Robinās stare was certainly distracting.Ā
āIām boooooored,ā Robin groaned after a meager minute of silence. āWhatāre you even studying, ma crotte?ā she yawned, laying her head on her book.Ā
After hearing your new nickname, your hands flew to the French to English dictionary Robin had lent you.
āFrench,ā You replied, flipping through the book.
Ā Your eyebrows furrow as you read the translation of ācrotte.ā After a deep breath, you slowly laid your head down on your textbook to meet eye to eye with Robin; a smile was slowly creeping on her face.
āDid you just call me your little poo?ā
Robinās eyes shut tight, her cheeks flushed red, and her lips were barely concealing her laughter.Ā
āGod, to think I believed that it was a cute nickname this time,ā you sat up, abandoning the dictionary on the table. Nevertheless, her nicknames, her giggles, and her company kept a smile on your face.
āOkay, okay,ā she picked her head up, wiping tears from her eyes, āhow about⦠mon coeur?ā Robin suggested.
āWait, I know this one,ā you gleamed. āMy heart?ā
āBingo,ā Robin smiled. āDāyou like that one?ā
āOh, itās much better than being your little poo!ā You laughed. āAs a matter of fact, you need a nickname too,ā
āI donāt think you can top mine,ā Robin cheekily replied, stacking all the books in a neat pile.Ā
You picked the dictionary up once again, searching for a suitable nickname. Robin watched over your shoulder, pointing out some she liked.

You could only remember the scene of Robin and Vickieās hands locking together. You couldnāt tell how much time had passed, nor how you ended up in Steveās car.
āEverythingās alright, Y/N,ā Steveās voice was soft, āWhatās happened? I thought Robin was bringing you home?ā
The mere thought of Robin stung your eyes. The words all sat clear in your mind, yet a clutter of incoherent words blubbered out. Steveās attention quickly diverted to you; although, his focus remained on the road.
As if you were a baby, Steve gently rubbed your back. Your tears finally spilled, staining your cheeks. God it felt pathetic, but heās the only other person who knew you liked Robin.
āYou can have my beer, but there should be a bottle of water on your side if you wanāā
You took the bottle without hesitation. The bitter liquid felt cool sliding down your throat. Although you were never a drinker, you couldnāt care less as to your decisions. Itād all feel the same in the morning, a hangover or no hangover.
āSorry,ā you spoke, placing the empty beer bottle in the cupholder. Your tears still streaming down your face.
āItās fine,ā Steve sighed, leaning back in his seat. āYou wanna try again?ā
You nodded, taking a deep breath.
āSo, um, Robin made this plan to get Vickieās attention, andā and I would be her pretend girlfriend, or whatever the fuck, so Vickie would l-look at her. I donāt even think she needed me,ā the words tasted more bitter than the beer youād downed moments prior, āācuz she had it all down right after she did some, um, āmovesā on me. I know shouldnāt have, but I couldnāt help but fall deeper in love with her. And fuck, it just hurts. Yāknow? Having to see the girl youāve been madly in love with since Sophomore year go along to another girl with the same heart eyes youāve had for her.ā
It was silent, other than the hum of the engine. It was humiliating, to say the least. Your mind paced along the endless roads of possibility, distracting yourself from the current reality. What if I hadnāt agreed? What if I told her that I loved her? What if Vickie didnāt notice her? What if she didnāt leave me there?
You knew that your āWhat Ifsā only existed through your mind. The possibility of you and Robin had withered. The garden of love you tended to so carefully had wilted in a blink of an eye. You held on to a single red rose. You knew the possibility of you and Robin was gone, but your love was no probability.
āSteve,ā you spoke, breaking the silence, ātake me to the after-party.ā
āThe what?ā Steveās eyebrows furrowed, his face illuminated by the stoplight. āY/N, what are you thinking of doing there?ā
āPlease,ā you pleaded, wiping the tears from your cheeks.
Steve scoffed as he altered his route, turning around.
āYou owe me, Iāll stay outside. Iāll take you home after this; for real.ā
āYeah, yeah,ā you smiled while the party came into view. Drunk teens spilled out into the field. Steve parked in front of the house, unlocking the door. āThanks, Stevie. Iāll make it up to you somehow!ā
You hopped out of the car, the harmony of a song leaked out from the house. The stench of liquor flooded your senses.
The moment you opened the door, you saw her. You were down the corridor, she in the living room. Her body slumped against a couch. She huddled away from the up-beat, drunken crowd. Youād expected to see her happy; you expected to see her with Vickie. Yet, her eyes looked dim. The living room abandoned by the crowd, only inhabited by Robin. Your heart clenched in the sight of her.
You took slow steps toward her, the atmosphere was heavy. Smoke and booze stifled your lungs. As you got closer, you noticed her stormy eyes, hectic and dark.
āRobin?ā you choked out, leaning against the arm of the sofa.
Her eyes flicked up to you; her gaze subconsciously luring out your affection. No matter how hard you fought to submerge it, itād resurface the moment her attention was on you. You drowned in her presence as she bolted towards you. She pulled you in her arms, her arms tightening around your waist once more. You were reminded of a scene of you and Robin. The act she played for Vickie seemed lost, Robinās emotions fell into your hands.
Robinās head was nestled in the crook of your neck, her breath fanned against your skin, her sniffles were quiet. You could tell she tried to hold back her tears. You could see yourself in her.
You wondered if sheād make the connection as well: being in love, it doesnāt work out, and then confiding in someone. A cycle both of you lived. However, Robin was the only drive of your cycle. You wondered if she knew that.
āCan we⦠go somewhere else?ā Her voice was weak, but it resonated strongly with your heart.
You nodded, pulling away from her. Your thumb swiped away her tears, drying her face. Your hand took hers as you led her someplace quiet. You knocked on every door you passed until one proved vacant.
You pulled Robin into a small bedroom on the first floor, the room untouched by the alcohol. You flicked on the lights, signalling her in. She sat down on the side of the bed, you sat next to her.
āIām sorry,ā she apologized, āI shouldnāt have asked you to be my fake girlfriend. It was douchey of me, and I did it for no reason.ā Her voice grew louder, sounding more like the Robin you fell in love with. She fell back on the bed, āShe doesnāt even like me, or well in a romantic sense. She said she āloves hanging out with me and my personalityā but she's just not into girls. Sheāsāā
Your hands pinched her lips. āI'm sorry about Vickie,ā you sighed, ābut I wanna talk to you, not about her.ā You paused for a moment, preparing yourself.
āIāve liked you, Robin. Since sophomore year, Iāve liked you ever since I saw you in band. You were the first girl Iāve ever liked, and probably the only person Iāll love like this.ā
After your confession, you released Robinās lips. āI know itās a shitty time to say this, but I couldnāt hold it in anymore.ā
You laid down as well, her head next to yours. In all honesty, you didnāt want to see her reaction.
Suddenly, Robin cupped your face, and clashed her lips with yours. Your eyes widened, and your heart rate quickened. Her lips were soft, and her gaze dreamy as she pulled away.
āRobin,ā you whispered, her hands still holding your face.
āIām so stupid,ā she shook her head, sitting up, āI canāt believe I didnāt catch it. You, I mean. You were here this entire time, and I just, hurt you,ā
You moved beside her, locking your gaze with Robinās. You dove in her eyes again; however, you didnāt search for the pearl, you decided to wait for it. You just needed to give her time. The silence between you was comfortable, but you needed to reply.
āI'm okay now,ā you smiled, taking her hands in yours, āIāll always be in your corner, Buckley. No matter what, Iāll wait for you.ā
She returned your smile, nodding, āI... Thank you, Y/N, I canāt wait to love you the way youāve loved me.ā

The sound of Robinās mallet clanking against metal pins echoed around the camping plot. The area was secluded, but Robin had experience in the forest. You sat on a mossy stump, silently watching her. You wanted to get up and help her. But, after you accidentally hammered your finger, she sat you in time out.
āRobin,ā you sang, āare you sure you donāt need my help?ā
She shook her head, picking another pin out from her coat pocket, āNope, Iām good!ā
You sighed, time felt like it was dragging on. You looked around for anything you could do in the meantime. Robinās beanie and your puffy coat could barely shake the cold off; thatās when you thought of something.
āRobin,ā you called out again, āIām going to go collect some materials for a fire!ā
She wasnāt able to respond as you were already off on your way, carefully waddling through the forest.
Her voice was clear as day, āDonāt wander off too far!ā
āOkay!ā You shouted back, waving back at her.
The bitter temperature nipped at your skin, so you reached into your pockets for your gloves. Your hands searched through the empty pockets for the pair of wool; however, they were nowhere to be found. It wasnāt too long until you realized your gloves were still tucked away in your backpack. With a sigh, you quickly gathered some branches. By the time your hands were full, the pigment of the sky deepened, and Robin had finished setting up the tent.
āRobbie!ā You squealed, running up to her. āI finished gathering some twigs, branches, and some, umm, pinecones.ā You placed the mixed pieces of branch and twig on the ground, picking the pinecones out of your pockets.
āAw, thanks, babe,ā Robin smiled, walking over to you. āI finished the tent, come on, weāll start the fire later tonight.ā
She took your hand to lead you into the tent, but she immediately turned back around. Her eyebrows were knit together as she raised both of your hands up to her.
āHoly shit, your hands are colder than the one time I lost a bet and I had to stick my hand into the snow for five minutes. Are you okay? Do you need anything? Whereāre your gloves, love?" She questioned, rubbing your hands slightly to warm them up.
āOh! About that, I forgot them in my bag and I didnāt notice until I started gathering the items. ām okay, really.ā You reassured her, letting a giggle slip from your mouth.
Robin pouted, āAre you sure? Come on, letās cuddle, itāll warm you up.ā
She tugged you into the tent, swiftly throwing blankets on blankets on you. Of course, she slid in right next to you. You couldnāt even remember the feeling of your freezing hands, your mind was only filled with the warmth of Robin.

It was that clenching feeling in your chest. The suffocation that resurfaced countless memories embedded within your mind. Her silhouette was pictured in front of you, evoking your fondness of the woman. She was here, she was right in front of you.
āY/N!ā your boss called out to you, āWhataya standing around for? Get to work!ā
You felt chills run down your spine as Robin turned around, her eyes trailing up to yours. Her arm draped over the chair, her other around another figure. Your legs were glued to the floor. It took another scolding, the usual āYou donāt get paid to stand,ā and āYouāre lucky you even got this job,ā to get you to approach her table.
āHi, welcome to, um, Rockyās Diner,ā you started. A lump sprouted in your throat, and tears began welling in your eyes. Your hand swiped under your eye, chasing away any teardrops that dared to fall.
You hadnāt recognized the girl next to Robin until she spoke. āAre you okay? I mean,ā she inquired, looking back at Robin, āyouāre crying.ā
You deeply inhaled, āIām fine, thank you for asking. What can I get for you two?ā
They took a few minutes. You stood there, feeling like a square peg in their round hole world. Your teeth dug into your bottom lip as you waited. The tension was as suffocating as the moment you first saw her. Your tears built up again; threatening to spill.
Robinās head turned to the red-haired girl next to her, mumbling a āyou ready?ā She nodded; Robin turned to you.
āIāll get the, um,ā Robin cleared her throat, reading the menu, āthe Breakfast Combo, please.ā
Her voice was low and quick. You noted her order and your eyes flicked up to the other.
āCan I get theā¦ā her voice trailed as her fingers traced through the menu; stopping on the Pancakes section, āthe Pancakes Deluxe, please?ā
Hearing the order rekindled memories of your dates with Robin in this very diner.
āIāve never been here,ā you stepped out of Robinās, rather Steveās, car. Running to her side after locking the car doors.
āConsider this our spot, L/N,ā Robin chuckled, lacing her fingers through yours.
Her arm pressed against the entrance, a bell ringing throughout the diner. The waitress welcomed the two of you in, guiding you to your seats.
āItās comfy in here, isnāt it?ā You smiled as you looked around the restaurant. The aroma of brewing coffee and sizzling, smokey sausages surrounded you with warmth in the chilly morning.
Robin hummed, her head resting on her hand, āI love you.ā
Your head snapped to her, eyes widening. āDid you just say your first āI love you?āā You exclaimed, grinning ear to ear.
āSure did, lovebug,ā Robin returned your smile, pinching your cheek.
āI love you, too,ā your voice found it easy to let out. It felt just right.
The idea of Robin being āyour personā now felt foreign; nothing seemed right ever since the earthquake. You could barely bear the grief of nearly losing Robin; resulting in a bitter break-up. She wanted to save the world, you wanted her home.
You snapped out of your reflection immediately, scribbling their orders down. āIāll get those in for you two,ā you flashed them a smile, heading for the kitchen.
You slid the note through the service window, ringing the bell.
āām heading out for five; Iāll go overtime,ā you grumbled, pushing through the back exit. The door slammed behind you.
Your breath hitched in your throat as you allowed your tears to flow. Your tears felt hot against your cheeks; your sobs could barely be suppressed.
Through broken sobs, your name could be heard slipping from Robinās lips. The way your name rolled off of her tongue calmed your weeping in an instant.
Robin ran towards you, pulling you in a hug. You wanted to push her away, yet you were drawn in by her presence.
āPlease,ā you gripped her shirt, it was stained with your tears already, ādonātādonāt do thāthis to me, Robin.ā
āYouāre hiccupping already,ā she sighed, patting your head. āMy care for you didnāt just die off because we broke up. I care for you, y/n, I do. And Iām sorry for how things ended, I shouldāve been there for you⦠and⦠andā¦ā
You didnāt respond; those words youāve wanted to hear unveiled more tears. She was right, every single word was just as true for you as for her.
āIām sorry,ā Robin choked out, her breath turned jagged. āI wish we turned out different.ā
You swallowed your tears, āMe too, Robs, me too.ā
Even though being nestled within Robinās arms sparked a feeling of nostalgia, those memories would be kept as memories.
āCan we⦠start over? As friends, of course,ā you suggested, your arms squeezing her ever-so-slightly.
āIād like that, L/N,ā Robin pulled away, wiping your tears. āNow, donāt cry anymore.ā
You smiled, returning the favor, āSame goes for you, Buckley.ā

āYou just need to say it with confidence,ā Nancy sighed as she rubbed your shoulder. āI think we all see how tense both of you two are, and itās honestly killing me.ā
āI wish it were that easy, Nance,ā you complained. āItās like, whenever I want to tell her, I lose my voice. I canāt say anything at all. I just⦠I can only look at her and hope she looks back at me the same way.ā
Eddie laughed, āListen, Y/N, she does. Everytime she looks at you, itās like she completely detaches from this world. And you wouldnāt imagine the things I heard from hanging out with her and Stāā
Eddieās tangent was quickly shut down as Steve returned from Robinās one-on-one consultation with him. Nancyās eyes met Steveās, silently interrogating him with her stare. On the other hand, your mind was still stuck on what Eddie was getting to.
Steve shrugged back at Nancy and turned back to you, āOkay, mm, how about this: Nancy, Eddie, and I will go get some ice cream, so you two love-birds can sort things out,ā he proposed, waiting for everyoneās approval.
Eddie was the first to agree. āIām down,ā he smiles, āas long as I donāt have to pay, I mean.ā
Nancy rolled her eyes at Eddie, but gave Steve the O.K., āYeah, yeah, Iāll pay.ā
āThanks, guys,ā you smiled as you drew them into a bear hug, āIām glad to have friends like you.ā
āWe are too! But,ā Nancy pulled away from the group hug, āwe donāt want to keep you away from your soon-to-be wife; weāll go now,ā she laughed, shooing both the boys away from you. You waved them off, slowly watching their figures shrink away.
Once you sent the group off, you turned to Robin. Her back was turned from you; she was staring out into the rich, golden sky. Her hair was still damp, and a towel was draped on her back. The image of her running into the ocean with you was still fresh in your mind.
Your legs could barely begin the process of approaching her. With every step, you could feel your heart beating out of your chest. Though, one thing became apparent as you inched closer; Robin was drawing in the sand. Her finger traced hearts and two initials repeatedly. The waves lapped at her designs; however, she would retrace them over and over.
A smile was placed upon your face while you sat next to Robin.
āEhem! Oh, um, hey,ā Robin blurted out, her hands covering her drawings. She suddenly perked up when her attention was fully on you. āDo you want my towel? I mean, you sat down here with your shorts on, I donāt want you to be uncomfortableā¦ā she offered, locking eyes with you.
āIām okay, Robin, donāt worry,ā You didnāt mind the wet sand beneath you; that was the least of your concerns. Your glance drifted off into the horizon. The idea of speaking those three syllables taunted you.
So, with all your courage, the words which have been stuck in your throat finally left your lips.
āI like you.ā
Nothing but the ambience of waves crashing onto each other responded to your confession. Your eyes fell to the ground in response, but Robinās fingers were back to the sand.
Her fingers carefully, and shakily, etched the words āme tooā into the sand. You could feel your face burning up as your attention returned to Robin. You couldnāt see anything but her shimmering, blue eyes through her hair. You sat there, staring at her.
āRobin,ā You whispered, your words ached for her attention.
āHm?ā Robin hummed, her eyes still locked on her message in the sand.
You moved close to her, your arm barely missing hers. You began writing a response beside Robinās; Robinās attention was definite.
Robinās voice quietly repeated your prompt. To you, it sounded like milk and honey. To her, it felt like a dream come true.
āOf course Iāll kiss you, silly,ā Robin giggled, coddling you in her towel.
Robinās eagerness was just enough to place you under her. She hovered over you for a moment, looking lovingly at you. Robinās smile went from ear to ear before she lowered her lips onto yours.
āI love you,ā she muttered in between kisses, āI always have.ā

Eddie, Steve, and Nancyās cheers could be heard from miles away. Robinās cheeks flushed red as she looked up at the three. You giggle as you throw your arms around her, planting a kiss on her cheek. You were hers, and she was yours.
