It’s official. Gallery is live!

Yuri on ice art gallery is a new project that showcases and provides a look into the portfolio of one YOI artist at a time. There are so many talented artists in this fandom! Each artist spotlight will connect you to the person behind the art and their inspirations, followed by a weeklong reblog of their work.

So follow along and join in celebrating all the wonderful creators who bless our dashboards with beautiful things every day.

I just started following yoigallery as soon as I saw it pop up on my dash a couple days ago. That would be lovely, thank you so much! :D

Este’s (@estellie) artwork redefines what “cute” is. You’ve never seen cute until you’ve seen her Makka. With clean lines and crisp color, Este’s pieces pull you in like nothing else. An excellent portrait artist, she has drawn some of my favorite close-ups of our skaters on and off the ice.

On top of that, she is an amazing technical talent. Can you believe she does much of her lineart with a mouse? unbelievable (with a MOUSE!!)

All kinds of things inspire Este, and it shows in the different types of subjects and styles she tries out.

It may sound really cliché, but I draw my inspiration from everything - it may be a scenery I saw recently, an old memory, a random photo on the Internet or the show itself (I like to draw while thinking about a particular quote from YoI). Also, my friends' works! I'll be forever grateful to them for continuously inspiring me and helping me to improve.

Este’s favorite to draw is...Vitya!

Why? Because his hair is easier to draw than Yuuri's! Just kidding. I have a weakness for white- or gray-haired characters in general, but Vitya captured my whole heart - his blue eyes, the heart-shaped smile, his silliness, charisma, even his awkwardness in dealing with crying people... Alright, I probaby should stop now, because this is turning into a Victor-appreciation gush.

Luna! @argyros

Luna’s art is colorful, full of funny and candid moments, and extremely expressive. Her style is a beautiful mix of distinct brushstrokes, strong lines, and fluid gestures.

Whether it’s a cute doodle or a fully rendered piece, each work will bring a smile to your face. All the scenes are filled with enough whimsy and humor to lift you up anytime. One of my favorite things is that Luna frequently draws supporting characters and friendships!

My art mostly reflects what I want to communicate at that point of time, whether it's a memory, a feeling, or a particularly evocative scene from a fic that I read-- it's usually something that I want to tell people about!

Luna’s favorite character to draw is...Yuuri Katsuki!

Yuuri is probably my favourite because I can identify with him a lot. Also he has great eyebrows.

I understand, Luna. As someone who barely has eyebrows, I’m very envious...

Sara is always dazzling us with the softest, most heartwarming moments. @nksara‘s work never disappoints--every pop of it in your dash is an uplifting piece of joy filled with warm colors, soft lines, and candid smiles.

There’s a very distinctive cream-toned richness to all of Sara’s work, but I’ll let them explain in their own words.

I’ve never really focused on developing a consistent art style, so it’s not that easy for me to describe my style. But an interesting thing I’ve realised is that since I started drawing YOI fanarts, my art has become much softer than it was before. Not only my use of colours and the subjects of my drawings, but also the line work and the way I construct faces, for example.

Sara’s recent favorite works include this and this. Both amazing!

Cute and soft Victuuri fanarts are one of my absolute favourite things to draw. I'm also proud of the one with the girls from YOI, it took me a long time, but it was a lot of fun to draw.

With soft lines and glowing colors, @cerisebio brings you along through joyous and gentle moments. A newer artist than those the ones featured before, but no less talented.

Each image makes me sigh with adoration. They’re all so. damn. sweet.

For favorite things to draw:

I’d say dancing/ice skating movements (which I only discovered I loved drawing thanks to YOI). I love to capture the dynamic and try to express the grace of the dancer/skater

There’s one YOI character it’s clear is Cerise’s favorite:

Easy! Victor, because he’s my favorite and he has a beauty out of this world.  Long or short hair, I love both. He looks good in anything.

Preach it, it’s true.

Kris ( @kriscynical ) has some seriously unforgettable art. With a sharp eye for details, each image will keep you staring for hours! No joke, check out every sequin and fold on those awesome skate costumes.

And the rich colors in this artwork just put everything over the top. You’ll instantly recognize Kris when you see such love of color and saturation. Did I also mention there’s some very spicy nsfw every now and then?

Kris has been drawing for over 20 years (wow!) and takes a very intuitive approach to choose color and composition.

I almost always have a pretty solid mental image of the piece I want to produce and what colors/lighting/mood I want from the start, but if there's something I'm unsure about I'll do a rough color study of the piece before starting the finished product to get everything figured out.

Favorite things to draw...Victuuri together! (us all, Kris, us all).

I love their sweet, healthy, wholesome dynamic so much in how absolutely devoted they are and how they unabashedly care for each other so deeply and want to support each other even if it means making personal sacrifices in order to do so; all those deep emotions are so fun to play with through subtle body language/facial expression, and I love conveying emotion in my work. 

For a single character, I'd have to say Yuuri because I relate to him a lot for various reasons and the complexity of his character makes for even more fodder when it comes to visually conveying his inner struggles with anxiety and self-worth.

Great doesn’t begin to describe the soft and dreamy nature of Morgen’s beautiful works. Prepare to drift and get lost in some beautiful eyes.

Morgen’s favorite things to draw are... 

I love drawing people, especially their eyes and hair. I've spent years working on facial expressions and trying to make eyes look alive. And hair? I'm just obsessed with hair :P

What makes YOI special to them sure sounds familiar. Are you sure you didn’t just read my mind, Morgen?

I was going through a very hard time when YOI came out. The show kept me sane for many months even after season 1 ended, and drawing fanart helped me hold on to that bright, positive feeling the show gave me.
