Hit it till it breaks
Chapter 3- Oww
Months. It took months for me to feel normal with only one leg.
After being released from the hospital I was bed ridden for three weeks before I could even begin to try walking with crutches. It took even longer for physical therapy to start getting better but when it came time for my prosthetic to be used I was terrified. I had asked the doctors if they could design a leg that would be able to withstand ice skating since I was dead set on not giving up. It took four months to get the leg and another five months to actually walk normal.
Skating was the last thing I tried to do. I was too scared that the leg wouldn’t hold up or that it would break during a landing. I didn’t want to fall again so I took it slow.
The moment I stepped on the ice I know I would be ok.
I skated very simple sequences to get the hang of things again. It seemed that all of my frustrations melted away when I skated. It was as if nothing had changed.
But all that glitters is not gold. The leg would one day fail me but I didn’t expect it when it did.
To be continued....
