never forget that although they experienced popularity surges in the opposite order, MY HERO ACADEMIA AIRED BEFORE YURI ON ICE DID.
many people see that yuri on ice is an older series because 1) it spiked in popularity much earlier and 2) because MHA is still currently running, so it's assumed to have premiered after.
MHA began running on april 3, 2016 (and not to mention had a running manga in 2014) whereas YOI did not begin its run time until october 5, 2016, just over a full six months after.
MHA did not surge in popularity until season three in 2018, and YOI sparked almost immediately. people often view them as two completely different points in anime or that yuri on ice definitively has older fans than my hero academia and this is simply not the case. YOI also ended the same year in which it started and only had 12 episodes. MHA has over 60 episodes and is currently airing a season, which often makes it seem newer. but it is common to fall for the trap that the end date is what determines age of the series. naturally, one might think that as an instinct, that because it ended earlier it must be older. often times, this is true, because normally series that start first end first. however, there are examples in which this is not the case. a notable one is one piece. one piece is still running, but it is still very much older than yuri on ice, even though yuri on ice ended before it. it's like saying that because a person died before someone born before them is older, which we know to not be true.
to say that yuri on ice ended before my hero academia is true, however, to say that yuri on ice is older than my hero academia is false. just because it's been running longer and experienced popularity after its counterpart, but is still very much older.
