Yoona was born in Gongju but her family moved to Busan when she was 10 years old.

Her father is a chef, who owns two restaurants in the city, and her mother runs an animal shelter.

She has a younger brother (born in ‘98), and an older sister (born in ‘94).

When she was 14 years old, her best friend moved to Seoul and Yoona would visit her during the summer holidays. During one of her visits, her friend told her about K-Pop companies that were holding auditions and told her to go and try it out because Yoona was known for singing in her father’s restaurants during evenings.

Her father supported the idea immediately, whereas her mother didn’t - she wanted her daughter to finish school and get a good job within the healthcare system, something she never got to do. But with a bit of convincing she was allowed to audition and her father drove her to Seoul, where she auditioned for FNC Entertainment. She sadly didn’t get in and continued her student life in Busan.

In 2012 a scout from KWS Entertainment heard her sing in her father’s restaurant and asked her to come to an audition. Again, her mother was against it, but her father drove her, telling his wife that they would just be going on a little trip.

She passed the audition and was one of the first official trainees under KWS Entertainment.

Yoona trained for 1 1/2 years and debuted in 2013 with the group OMEN, who disbanded only a year later for still unknown reasons. While she continued being a trainee, not wanting to give up her dream of becoming a singer, she also managed to graduate from school on top of her class, making her mother very happy. During this time she met the Amour members and they debuted together on February 14th, 2017.

In January of 2020, KWS Entertainment went bankrupt due to illegal actions from the CEO, forcing Amour to publicly disband. Privately, Yoona fought to keep the name of the group, not losing the hopes of continuing their life as idols.

After that, she decided to start her job at a children’s café.

In December of 2020, Pledis announced to have signed Amour, making not only the members, but also the fandom very happy.

Yoona is not only known as the Leader Of Amour, but also as the Mum Of Cupids. After seeing how she takes care of the fans during concerts and fansigns, fans asked to be able to call her that, which she happily agreed to.

The leader is known for her caring nature, silently taking care of her members and not being afraid to speak up if she think something is unfair or someone is being treated poorly.

She said she might actually cry if she ever got to meet BTOB.

She’s the cook of the group, thanks to her father.

The members have only ever seen her cry once: when she couldn’t get a job right away in 2020 and thought that they would really have to live with their parents again. Haru has seen her cry one other time: when Yoona was slowly losing faith that any company would sign them. And she teared up when she received the email from Pledis.

She cried on her own listening to Kidult because the song came out during their most difficult time and it really hit.

Yoona can play the piano a little bit of the violin because her older sister used to play and taught her.
