met a boy not unlike me

with foolish eyes and player dreams,

a smoker’s voice akin to mine

and piercing eyes which melt all binds.

but unlike me he rarely laughed

and spoke too little of the past,

still when he looked into my eyes

I found a fellow teller of lies.

and with that gaze I gained a wish

to match my lies and life with his,

now days and weeks have gone on by

while I’ve been waiting on a sign.

then just last night I dreamed of him

and my uncertainties became has-beens

now I’m just stuck, hoping that time

will make this allusive player mine.
