there’s something about how kurapika weaponizes his own eyes in his quest for revenge. idk how to articulate it but like the way the kurtas were only viewed as valuable for their scarlet eyes and killed for it. kurapika creating emperor time and training himself to activate his scarlet eyes at will, using them as a powerful weapon that’s also killing him. how ironic it is that kurapika kinda dehumanizes (?) himself to get his people’s eyes back.

i remember seeing someone talk abt who gets to have a childhood in hxh re: kurapika and neon and it really hits during the hospital scene when neon’s playing with the scarlet eyes. it fucks me up that neon and kurapika are the same age but while neon gets to act spoiled and treat body parts as objects, kurapika has been forced to grow up and go through hell just to have a part of his family that he can bury...

i’m gonna be honest here the phantom troupe bores me to tears and i super genuinely wish they were more interesting since they are a main villain who get way too much screen time like they could’ve at least been more fun to watch or something but everytime the focus is on them i just zone out. pakunoda is the only one i felt any attachment to and she’s dead
