There is something that happens in the early days of motherhood and babyhood. You find yourself awake at four something in the morning, together, unable to sleep, locked in each others arms, confused and not sure which way is up and which way is down. You are both fumbling in the dark, one learning about what night means and one trying to teach the other what night means. You both know nothing and are figuring it out as you go. You both are lost, in a seemingly never-ending night, wordless, curious and in love. Your partner is asleep in the bed next to you. It is intoxicating and exhausting to bond in this way… alone together in the dark. You watch the sun come up.
