The 1966 Carswell Airshow, held in conjunction with the Air Force Association's 20th anniversary convention.
The XB-70 Valkyrie, shown in center, made its only public appearance at this airshow. The first XB-70A, on display here, flew in September 1964, and it achieved Mach 3 flight in October 1965. The second Valkyrie first flew in July 1965, but in June 1966, it was destroyed following an accidental mid-air collision. The third Valkyrie was not completed.
It looks like an SR-71 but itβs a YF-12 simply amazing that they allowed the public to look inside of the cockpits. Also found a photo of the B-58 with Convair B-58 crew pose together at Carswell after setting three new provisional world records for speed on Jan. 12, 1961. From left: Capt. H.S. Bialas, Maj. H.E. Confer, Maj. R.H. Weir.
Confer in the middle. Hal Confer was my Fatherβs hero from the B-58 and the SR 71 Confer was a very important man in the SR-71 program. Posted by Linda Sheffield.
