The summer could have passed that way, the long, slow healing of grief, trying to find a place and knowing that it would never be home. But instead Jim gets nostalgic, and sad, and they go looking for a scrap of Oluwande. And they find it, but not in the way they’d have expected. They open a website, and download an app, and nothing really changes and everything changes all at once.

They might have made it even longer had they not gone to a stupid fucking bar for stupid fucking drinks. Lucius and Frenchie had insisted they come, dragging them along with the whole crew on Friday night shore leave. The bar isn’t anything like Jackie’s - it’s bigger, and more of a pub, with Irish paraphernalia and Guiness on tap. But the floor is sticky under their feet, and the whole place smells faintly of beer and fried food, and their chest aches so much it hurts. They miss him so fiercely and so strongly that it nearly takes their breath away.

Oooooh I love that so much!! Maybe I'll have to design myself a little frog tattoo or bunny tattoo, that would be so fun.

6. which shows do you think are underrated and need more love?

oooh ok i think superstore is my answer for this one! i don’t know a lot of people that watch it, and it doesn’t seem to get a ton of love on tumblr that i’ve been able to find, but it’s actually really funny, and quietly subversive. there are stories about worker’s rights, unions, undocumented immigrants, maternity leave, sexism, racism, homophobia, activism, etc. etc. etc. but at the same time it’s hilarious. and it has a fun cast of supporting characters that are on par with that of the office. they knock the “group conversation spins wildly off-topic” thing out of the park every time. at least once an episode a joke will catch me by surprise and i’ll laugh out loud, which doesn’t happen very often when i’m watching comedies alone. anyway, it’s quirky and weird and definitely feels like an underdog show, and it can be a lil cheesy, but i dunno, i love it! 

9. what’s one show you thought you’d hate but turned out to really enjoy?

honestly...i really didn’t think i’d like iasip. it seemed like that brand of “anti-PC” comedy that just likes to be offensive for offense’s sake. you know, like south park or family guy. i watched it only because i was really depressed and blasting through sitcoms and i needed something to watch and i figured i should at least know it if i was gonna be a sitcom enthusiast. it turns out i was very wrong about it and now i’m obsessed. so, the moral of the story is: never judge a piece of media by the dudebros that like it, because it’s usually much gayer than they realize.

10. what’s one show you thought you’d love but turned out to really hate?

in theory, sens8 should have been right up my alley, but i couldn’t get into it. i thought the writing was bad and kind of cheesy, and this is gonna sound snooty, but it really bothered me that that the characters in foreign countries all spoke in english to each other. why wouldn’t you speak to someone in your first language if it’s also their first language? that kind of thing always bothers me in movies and tv, tbh, and i know it’s like partly a money thing bc then you’d have to pay for translators and dialect coaches and language coaches etc. and netflix doesn’t really pay that much, but it really did bother me. 

41. if you could change 1 detail about any show, what would you change and why?

hmmmm i’d make it so charlie’s uncle on iasip wasn’t a pedophile because otherwise i think the character is really funny and i like the actor that plays him! and i would want to see him in more episodes but the pedophilia stuff makes me uncomfortable. i know a big part of iasip’s humor is discomfort, but it’s less of a “oh this is awkward haha” thing and more of a “i just don’t find pedophilia that funny” kind of thing? i guess? idk.
