hmmm, i have a feeling your answers for a lot of these would involve iasip, but let's try 6, 9, 10, and 41.
6. which shows do you think are underrated and need more love?
oooh ok i think superstore is my answer for this one! i donât know a lot of people that watch it, and it doesnât seem to get a ton of love on tumblr that iâve been able to find, but itâs actually really funny, and quietly subversive. there are stories about workerâs rights, unions, undocumented immigrants, maternity leave, sexism, racism, homophobia, activism, etc. etc. etc. but at the same time itâs hilarious. and it has a fun cast of supporting characters that are on par with that of the office. they knock the âgroup conversation spins wildly off-topicâ thing out of the park every time. at least once an episode a joke will catch me by surprise and iâll laugh out loud, which doesnât happen very often when iâm watching comedies alone. anyway, itâs quirky and weird and definitely feels like an underdog show, and it can be a lil cheesy, but i dunno, i love it!Â
9. whatâs one show you thought youâd hate but turned out to really enjoy?
honestly...i really didnât think iâd like iasip. it seemed like that brand of âanti-PCâ comedy that just likes to be offensive for offenseâs sake. you know, like south park or family guy. i watched it only because i was really depressed and blasting through sitcoms and i needed something to watch and i figured i should at least know it if i was gonna be a sitcom enthusiast. it turns out i was very wrong about it and now iâm obsessed. so, the moral of the story is: never judge a piece of media by the dudebros that like it, because itâs usually much gayer than they realize.
10. whatâs one show you thought youâd love but turned out to really hate?
in theory, sens8 should have been right up my alley, but i couldnât get into it. i thought the writing was bad and kind of cheesy, and this is gonna sound snooty, but it really bothered me that that the characters in foreign countries all spoke in english to each other. why wouldnât you speak to someone in your first language if itâs also their first language? that kind of thing always bothers me in movies and tv, tbh, and i know itâs like partly a money thing bc then youâd have to pay for translators and dialect coaches and language coaches etc. and netflix doesnât really pay that much, but it really did bother me.Â
41. if you could change 1 detail about any show, what would you change and why?
hmmmm iâd make it so charlieâs uncle on iasip wasnât a pedophile because otherwise i think the character is really funny and i like the actor that plays him! and i would want to see him in more episodes but the pedophilia stuff makes me uncomfortable. i know a big part of iasipâs humor is discomfort, but itâs less of a âoh this is awkward hahaâ thing and more of a âi just donât find pedophilia that funnyâ kind of thing? i guess? idk.
ask me things about tv shows!
