Michael held onto Gavin for as long as he could before he allowed the man to go over to Ray. As Michael wiped away his tears, Ray wrapped his arms around Gavin's neck tightly and held on as hard as he could. "Please don't go," Ray whispered into Gavin's ear. "I'm sorry that I'm sad but I'll get happy if you stay. Please Gav?" The nurse quietly walked back in with the sign-out sheet and gave the three a sad smile. "Alright boys, Mr. Free has to go now." Michael let out another small sob.
"I'm sorry, R-Ray." Gavin cursed himself for choking out his name, but the nurses knew best, right? They had to, why else would they ask him to stay away for a few days? "I'll come back, yo' know I always do. I'm no' gonna be gone long, promise." He pressed his lips to Ray's forehead, squeezing his eyes shut. "I'll be back, I swear."
He let go of the little Lad and signed the sheet, giving them a final wave before walking out to Geoff's car. On the way back, he curled himself up in the seat, silent tears down his face.
Michael clenched his teeth for a moment before he forced a watery smile on his face. "O-Okay Gav," he said, swallowing down more tears and taking Gavin's hand in his. "W-We'll be real good and we won't make any messes and I-I'll make sure that Ray brushes his teeth." His little chest heaved with a soft sob but the little lad held up his smile. "P-Promise." Ray didn't move or say a word, the only indication that he heard Gavin being the silent sobs that wracked through his body.
He knelt down and let Michael come into his arms for one more big hug, his beard brushing against the little Lad's cheek and soaked up some of the tears. God, Gavin was going to worry about them. He would call, check on Ray and see how Michael was doing. Crossing over to Ray, he bundled the Lad up into his arms and squeezed. "I'm gonna miss you two. SO much."
