I’ve been reading the other asks sent in, and they’ve reminded me just how frustrating the system was:
I was helping to tutor a few young kids at the local school, and these are only a few of the instances which really made me throw my hands up in disbelief:
1. These kids were taught to recognise English words by learning the order of letters
2. They were learning how to calculate area by counting the units enclosed in a figure
3. They were learning what a RAM was without having ever been shown what a computer was
I would try my best to try and teach them properly but there was only so much time I had with them, and my supervisor actively discouraged me from doing so - all that was required was that they passed the exam, and any other work would be a “distraction.” Whenever I think of it it fills me with despairing rage.
The death of learning as we know it
