Another lovely and mysterious Nomada. Â Nomada placida. Â Eastern U.S. Â This one from Highland County. Â Late season species. Â Host - Unknown, Probably Andrena, but....other possibilities exist. Â Collected by Steve Roble in Highland County, Virginia. Â So many scintillating worlds out there that we walk by thinking about bears when we should be thinking about Nomada. Â Photo by Erick Hernandez.

For @lady-crushes-friday at long last some YellowDot angsting!  I wanted to experiment with giving Yellow Diamond a thought process that feels distinctly nonhuman and also sets her apart from the other gems as an ancient being among other ancient beings...hopefully it’s more that than “gratuitously rambly”.
Part 1: grieve
She had no way of knowing Blue had been here until she made contact with the Earth. Â The information flooded her, momentarily clouded her vision, imprints of Blue walking, wandering aimlessly, seeking, grieving.
Grieving. Â Loss. Â Still feeling. Â Always flooded with the stuff, a river of remorse flowing forever from her eyes. It was sickening. Â Dizzying. Â She did her best to ignore it.
No sense in it, and yet, how else did she mean to explain her own presence here? Â Failed Peridot (rebellious Peridot). Â Needed to assess the situation, determine whether the project could be salvaged--personally, lest another of her best gems fell victim to organic nonsense.
You should make a fanfic with Yellow Diamond! I´m kinda ship Yellow D with Peridot. (You should read Yellow Textbooks by The Scent Of Rain). I feel like you would portray her perfectly.
HIIII FRIEND!!!  Thank you so much for your kind words!  I really like the idea of this ship, so I saved this ask for a bit until I could offer you a tiny bit of like…brainstorming, kinda?  Another friend has requested some Peridot/Yellow Diamond from me so something a bit more substantial is in the works, as well!  This is just kinda…a quick scene setting for what I think their dynamic might be.
And you know, come to think of it, Peridot was really, really…what was the word for it? Happy.  She was happy.  With her new life here on Earth.  She was pleased that she had helped to saveit from imminent destruction.  Even ifthat meant…
Sometimes, when it was nighttime and there wasn’t much todo, and Lapis was off brooding on the roof or something, and she didn’t quitefeel like rewatching Camp Pining Hearts right this second, Peridot lay back, closed her vision spheres, and allowed her mind to wander.  Sometimes she thought of pleasant things, like the way the farm was growing and expanding, or the way Lapis had slowlystarted to see her as a friend.
But most times, her pleasant thoughts were interrupted byuncontrollable flashes of…something both good and bad.  Longing. Homeworld.  Missing.  Something sad because a part of her knew theway she remembered it wasn’t the way it was. Frustration.  Fear.  Her fault, her choices–that one was calledguilt.
Yellow Diamond smiled at her sometimes.  Peridot 2F-5L, Cut 5XG was Yellow Diamond’sfavourite.  She thought.  She knew. For a time.  Peridot was eager toplease, and she was skilled–definitely skilled, right?  She was good at being a Peridot, right?  And she excelled and whatever task was givento her.  Many of her superiors smiled ather when she finished her masterful work. And sometimes even Yellow Diamond did.
She remembered in particular just before she’d been sent toEarth, the first time, Yellow DIamond had called her in after her missionbriefing to bid her farewell.  It was atremendous honour, not one bestowed upon just anyone, even just anyPeridot.  Yellow Diamond had bent at thewaist, just enough, and had lightly tapped Peridot’s…what was it calledhere?  Peridot’s chin.  With her…fingers.
“I wish you a successful journey, Peridot,” she’dsaid, low and quiet like nothing else on Homeworld, like the way distantthunder sounded here on Earth. “Though of course I do not need to.”
Peridot crossed her arms in the sign of fealty.  "Of course, my Diamond.  I will not fail you.“
A smile.  Small, difficult to see when Yellow Diamond rose to her full height, but still presentin her voice when she murmured, “You never do.”
Peridot woke without realizing she had been sleeping, inexplicablewetness around her vision spheres–eyes!–panting, gasping for oxygen when shedid not need it to breathe, found her arms crossed over her chest in a gestureshe tried with each passing day to forget.
