Me : I think gales horniness is so interesting in many ways but mainly because it’s so innocent .. . because although he is conscious about the way things are “ supposed” to be ( and although he is a victim of repression in some ways as a man of that time or even of this one, any time really ) there is an untouched layer of intuition that is still deeply depraved and exploratory . No one has told him these desires aren’t ‘ right’ explicitly so they are his own. For him it’s just intuitive like ‘oh no it’s not weird’ I want to preserve John’s sweaty handkerchief or take a bite out of the arch of his foot and put it inside that handkerchief - it’s really unexamined and unselfconscious…you know ? I’m trying to articulate something here …does this make sense ??
