Xavi slides Jacinta’s drink in her direction as she sits down. “Just as you ordered,” he says with a wink.
“Thank you very much.” Jacinta raises her glass to him before she takes a sip.
Xavi sighs and sits back. “This is so much more my style than that stupid coffee shop down the road.”
Jacinta clucks her tongue and mumbles, “You just have poor taste,” into her drink.
Xavi laughs wholeheartedly, making her chest puff out in pride.
After their arranged meeting via Auntie Journey, Jacinta didn’t expect to run into Xavi again - much less for him to show up at her workplace, ready to collaborate with the boss. Nor did Jacinta expect to have gained title of boss that very day, since old Jacques had finally kicked the bucket. Xavi had been unperturbed by Jacinta’s existence in the field and the old man’s sudden disappearance. He’d left with a dozen new ideas thrown on the wall and a date with Jacinta arranged for that weekend.
“Tell me more about yourself, Jace,” Xavi asks. Jacinta chuckles and looks away, willing her blush out of her cheeks. “Your aunt made it sound like you had some tragic backstory.”
“Not quite as tragic as she makes it seem,” Jacinta assures him. “My ex husband died under rather unfortunate circumstances that were not at all related to my work.”
Xavi nods. “I see. And your boys?”
Jacinta huffs. “One’s an ungrateful brat who ran away to be a spoiled rich kid, and the other still lives with me.”
Xavi nods again. Jacinta finishes her drink and signals the bartender for another. If he wants to get in with me, he’s going to have to do better than that.
