what is composition???

composition is the element in an artwork that, basically, makes it flow. an artwork (or in this case, edit) with good composition will be more eye appealing; a piece with poor composition will probably make your eyes stray and youll get bored of it. aka, a bad piece of work. (or a piece that needs work. HAHAHHAHA GET IT???> HAHHAHA EHEHHEHE HOHOhoOOo sorry i dont know what came over me)

sometimes youll scroll down your dash and see a beautiful edit!! the colours are perfect, the textures, the arrangement of the people and all that cool stuff. what makes these edits so aewsome?? the composition of course!!

another thing that can make edits A+ is the purpose of it. an edit of yunho from tvxq with a fancy snappy sappy quote about him and changmin being total homodachi and all angsty and stuff, with the edit having a good matching composition, will get more notes than an edit of yunho with some weird peach tone thingy and like random lines and shit and "WE FOUND LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE" over his face and gives you a feeling of what the fuck is the purpose of this even??? a purpose that invokes emotion will look and feel much better than one with no aim or gain.

editing is pretty hard work!! skills like finding good composition and determining good purpose come with time. here are a few protips though when creating edits to improve your composition and purpose (see i wasnt just rambling for nothing heres your prize FREE LOOT MAN):

plan out your work. id be lying if i said that you wont get good results sometimes from just fucking around but most of the time, choosing a mood (sad? happy? dark? etc) and a subject, and the general ghist of what you wnat, will help you a lot later on when youre scrolling through your textures folder like wtf do i do now

USE FUCKING HQ PHOTOS GODDAMNIT DONT USE FANTAKEN PHOTOS AMEN THANK BLESS non hq photos will be noticeably less eye appealing than hq photos even when you resize it to like 1000px less and you put 30 adjustement layers and 5 textures IT STILL WONT LOOK AS GOOD TRUST ME OK AND DONT.USE.FANTAKEN PHOTOS DO NOT DONT NOPE DONT NOOOO

control yourself. you see a pretty texture that has absolutely nothing bloody in common with the rest of your edit BUT OH ITS SO BEAUTIFUL???? CANT I USE IT MOMMY SERYIS???? PLEASE??? NO DONT USE IT adding unique elements is gr8 but clashing elements in another thing. be creative but use common sense when choosing textures and colours. 

remember you can resize, turn around and even recolour textures!! if your entire edit is blue and green and OH PRETTY OUT OF PLACE RED TEXTURE but a colour fill over it and adjust the settings and tada. theres tons of beautiful colour plattes over tumblr and you can also go to colourpicker.com or w/e just google it and create your own beautiful NON CLASHING colour palettes!! wowza super cool right

YOU DONT HAVE TO FILL UP EVERY SINGLE PIXEL OF THE GRAPHIC WITH TEXTURE use negative space to your advantage!! a balance of positive and negative space is the best. art with an overload of positive space will feel cluttered like if you wore 10 tshirts and 3 skirts and 4 pairs of pants and your hair is 15 different colours and you literally look like a piece of multicoloured rainbow puking goo or something

some edits look good with lots of positive space!! thats cool too. BUUUT understand that some textures, pictures, colours etc look better with certain (repeat the same thing reversed here) and different balances of positive and negative space. practice is key!! ((who wouldve guessed??))

too many things can be distracting from the focal point (ie too many random textures on the edges of an edit, random things that have no purpose but to take up space that look awkward and out of place) you know an edit has gone whack if you start to think too hard about the random text you put on the side in another language with some random saying that literally has nothing to do with the edit

i cannot reiterate this enough: stuff that evokes emotion will always be infinitely more interesting and pleasing than random stuff that has seemingly random place. edits arent all supposed to be OMG GROUND BREAKING IM CRYING TEARS IN MY EYES WEEPS INTO HANDS WITH LOUD SCREECHING BIRD NOISES but they shouldnt be WHY THE HELL ARE THERE SAD SONG LYRICS ON AN EDIT WITH SOME RANDOM KID ON A SWING 

EXPERIMENT EXPERIMENT EXXXPEEEERRRIMMMMENT dudes omg if you think a texture could be replaced with something better??? DO IT. if you can find ways to improve your edit that would mean replacing or removing textures or colours??? DO IT. dont be afraid to start parts of your edit over. EXPERIMENTING IS KEY

if you see an edit you like study it!!! DONT COPY PEOPLES EDITS OBVIOUSLY but try and find out what makes that edit to nice to look at it IS IT THE COLOUR?? IS IT THE TEXTURES??? IS IT THE PURPOSE???? IS IT A COMBINATION OF ALL THOSE THINGS???
