Truth with love.
This morning I had a nursing class that emphasizes on the importance of relationships within the profession. The topic for today was learning how to deal with grief/death/dying, etc. In the articles that we were reviewing, euphemism was a common topic as people try to minimize the “scariness” of the word, “die” or “death”. My prof went on to talk about the articles, but she mentioned how we should be sensitive and not sugar-coat the matters that are important to both the patient and the family.
Instantly, my mind jumped to my faith as a Christian. How often do I sugar-coat the truth of the sin that I’ve committed and the consequences that tag along with it? When I share the Gospel with others, do I tell them what they want to hear and warp the truth? Or do I give them the information that makes their ears itch in a way that is still respectful and loving?
Be sure to speak truth with love.
Here’s a quote also struck me in the past the seems relevant to this topic:
“Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.”
Food for thought.
Everyone’s going out and making lifelong friends and then there’s me..
with my laptop.. at home.. by myself.
yup.
