Okay so i haven’t really been active in the star trek fandom since like 2016 so this came kinda out of left field but a few weeks ago i’ve read ‘You Don't Have To (Say Yes)’ by luminousbeings and oh boi let me tell you this fic,, changed the game for me. Like this is a fic that im gonna remember forever and just look, i love it so freaking much that i couldnt stop drawing from it. I’ve always liked reboot jim but after this fic i would eat dirt for him cause it gave him so much more depth, his friendship with bones ruined me and the romance had everything i needed and more. Sorry for the long ramble but honestly, give it a read if you have the time <3  @famous-wwi-flying-ace thank you so much for writing such an amazing story <3
Please don’t repost my art! My instagram is justasecbro
Holy fuck where do I even start okay so your writing is absolutely amazing, I have reread YDHTSY at least sixteen times and every single time I laugh hysterically and cry and fall in love with Jim all over again. The oneshot of Spock rescuing a tribble is pure gold and practically canon as far as I'm concerned. Also your Marriage of Inconvenience AU literally had me crying with laughter. Your characterisation is brilliant and your writing is gorgeous and basically I kind of love you.
BABE, I cannot tell you how much I needed this today. I kind of love you too.Â

A two-part fanmix for Jim Kirk in You Don’t Have To (Say Yes) by @famous-wwi-flying-ace (luminousbeings on ao3).
Pride month and my brain is full with You Don’t Have To (Say Yes) by the amazing @famous-wwi-flying-ace (luminous beings on ao3). go read. just do it (sleep is lame and time an illusion). and then draw because i found no art, of this fic?? and i am like…… what?
Happy Pride, Nerds <3

hello, I'm currently doing my (it's basically monthly at this point) reread of YDHTSY, I've sent you a message before talking about how much I love it. I was wondering if you could elaborate more on why specifically spock fell for jim. (fyi, i don't think you did a bad job portraying it at all, I just kinda wanted to hear more from you about this couple, bc you seem to have such a tight grasp on their relationship) i love your work, have a lovely day!!!
Oh my gosh, this is a DREAM ask. First of all, thank you so much for your encouragement! (and repeated messages despite my inability to responsibly deal with my inbox, l-lol). It means so, so much to me and just. Yeah. Asdf. This ask made my night.
Part of why I adore this question is because you’re hitting a major nail on the head: the relationship between Spock and Kirk in AOS is very complex, and honestly kind of volatile. It doesn’t immediately make sense – or, at least, it makes sense in a chemistry way (they’re exact opposites with similar levels of intensity and attractiveness, heterosexuality doesn’t exist in the future, voila, instant PWP). But the question of why they might work out long-term isn’t as straightforward, since they (read: Jim) are kind of a hot mess. Put against TOS, where both characters are more settled and the Spock/Kirk relationship development feels very organic and inevitable and mmmm…. dare I say logical?? the difference in AOS is especially obvious.Â
So, okay, impulsive sex and crisis-motivated bonding aside, why did Spock fall for Jim? I really think it comes down to a combination of fascination and admiration. Spock and Jim share all of their most important values - individuality, passion for their jobs, protection of the vulnerable and marginalized - and absolutely nothing else. So you have Jim taking these totally foreign (fascinating) approaches to goals they find mutually important (admirable). I think it comes down to that knowledge that Spock may never be able to predict how Jim will act, but he’ll always be able to know he’s acting based on principles Spock appreciates and respects. And the same is true of Jim falling for Spock: they both don’t fully understand each other, but they do fully trust each other. And both sides of that dynamic are equally vital to their beautiful, hot mess of a relationship.
I just want to say that You Don't Have To (Say Yes) was FANTASTIC I read it in like three days, all of the literary allusions to classics like Gatsby etc; the thing you did with the italicized and parenthetical clips of flashbacks and thoughts; the flawless way you wove in pathos in regards to kirk's past and how bones & Spock (among others) handle it. It's definitely my new fav fanfic– and dare I say trilogy– as 192,321 words technically counts as three (approximately) 64,107 word novels...
Wow, it really is a trilogy, that’s terrifying! Honestly I look back at when I was writing YDHT, clocking in like 50k words a month, and I’m like, how even…?Â
I am SO SO HAPPY that you enjoyed it, and all the literary references (those were my favorite too). Thanks also for saying hi - don’t be a stranger, k? :)
You Don't Have to Say Yes is my absolute favorite thing ever. I count it as my favorite book. Like, dude, this is masterpiece, so genious and well REALLY WELL written. I adore it. And I just need you to know how much I appreciate it and how grateful I am for you to introduce us to this story. That work just needs evan more love than it already has and I'm not sure I'll be able to stop complimenting you on that heh!
Ahhhhhhh get over here, lovely *HUGS THE CRAP OUTTA YOU* Thank you so, so much for reading, and enjoying, and just…everything. Seriously. Thank you so much! Also, I have to SINCERELY APOLOGIZE because when I am extremely touched by a comment or ask I panic and don’t respond for a bajillion years, and, uh… That’s what happened here. I am so sorry… Thank you, buddy <333
