“You don’t have to thank me, Moons,” Sirius says, kissing behind his ear again, palm rasping against Remus’ skin as he rubs the stretched skin around his stomach. “Get some sleep, alright? Your baby will be here soon, you need all the rest you can get.” Something about that statement sounds off to him, a little wisp of unease curling in his chest, but he’s so tired that he pays it no mind, snuggling back against Sirius’ chest as he lets the steady cadence of his breath lull him to sleep.

“I’m going to kill you,” he moans, pain wracking his body as he paces back and forth across his room, hands pressed against his lower back where it feels like someone is driving daggers into his spine. “You did this to me!” It’s complete nonsense, because Sirius had absolutely nothing to do with the conception of their baby, but luckily Sirius doesn’t point that out, hovering at his side with one arm wrapped around his waist and the other wrapped around his bicep, murmuring, “I know, it’s okay, you’re okay. Deep breath for me love, that’s it.” “I’d like to see you take a deep breath while a watermelon tries to evacuate your body,” he snaps breathlessly, sucking air through his teeth when a fresh wave of pain rolls through him, going rigid in Sirius’ arms before he collapses against his chest. “Why can’t I have a pain potion, again?” “You refused when the nurse tried to give you one and insisted you were doing it the natural way,” Sirius says, running a soothing hand up and down his back while placing a tender kiss behind his ear, his other hand slipping around to cradle Remus’ bump.

It’s still early when Remus wakes to the feeling of a heavy arm draped over his waist and warm breath being softly huffed against the back of his neck, reveling in the silence of their flat and the still grey light creeping in from around the edges of the curtains, sitting up enough to steal a glance at the clock and wondering if it would be worth it to try to catch a little more sleep when he feels Sirius stir behind him. He rolls over instead, tangling their legs together beneath the covers as Sirius slits his eyes open and smiles sleepily at him, the arm around his waist pulling him in until they’re pressed together fully, sighing as Sirius presses their lips together in a tender kiss. “Good morning. I didn’t mean to wake you, it’s early yet. You can go back to sleep.”

Remus doesn’t really know what to do with himself as he watches his tad chat with Sirius in front of the fireplace. He’s only been to the flat once before, when he was helping Remus move in all those months ago, but the contrast between then and now—Lyall chuckling at something Sirius has said while clapping him on the shoulder—is truly startling. He’d thought that the hospital was a one-off, Lyall being nice to Sirius because Remus was unwell, but something has in fact changed between them, as evidenced by the way they’ve been downright friendly ever since his tad popped through the floo unannounced with his arms full of freezer meals that his mam prepared for after the baby gets here.  Remus is also rather thankful that his libido has died off again, otherwise there was a very real chance of his tad seeing something he shouldn’t have, considering how many times they’ve fucked on this sofa.

Remus hadn’t expected to be given a private room at St. Mungo’s. It’s not like he’s visited the labor ward before, but he’s heard stories, and he had mentally prepared himself to give birth separated from other people by only a thin curtain. Instead he has his own rather nice room with actual walls and a door, as well as a seating area beneath the magical window that’s currently displaying a rather serene forest scene. It’s quiet, and discreet, and while he supposes there’s a chance it's because of his lycanthropy he has a pretty strong feeling it has more to do with the way Sirius had pulled the Mediwitch aside after Remus’ last appointment, though he hadn’t thought much of it at the time. He shouldn’t be surprised, and should have foreseen Sirius doing something like this, but it’s making him unreasonably angry at the moment. 

Remus grimaces as Teddy lets out a shriek so loud that it startles a flock of birds away from a nearby tree, scooping her up into his arms and holding her against his chest as he shushes her, sharing a grim look with Sirius, who is still absently rocking the pram despite the fact that their daughter is no longer in it. They had decided earlier that day, looking out the windows at the beautiful spring day happening outside their flat, that they were ready to attempt heading out into the real world with Teddy. This was a horrible idea, because they most certainly were not ready, and it’s been a disaster since the moment they stepped outside their door. They’ve barely been out for twenty minutes and Teddy has already spit-up on Sirius, peed through her diaper, and seems to hate the outside world as much as she hates sleeping. Remus is so anxious that he feels jittery, hands shaking as he gently pats Teddy on the back, growing even more nervous when he takes in the confused and disapproving looks they’re getting from the people around them.

Remus decides, with the surplus of time he’s found himself with lately, that he’s going to scrub the flat until it’s spotless. He hasn’t really been sure what to do with himself since he quit his job. Lounging in front of the telly got old rather fast, his friends are all busy with work and their own lives, and as much as he tries, he can’t find the focus to concentrate on a book unless Sirius is reading it out loud to him. Remus has worked ever since they left school, supporting himself fully—even if his employment history itself is a bit spotty, considering the number of times he’s been let go for missing too many shifts around the full moon—and even if Sirius insists that Remus relax while he’s at work, he’s been bored out of his mind.  Besides, he’s been practically itchy thinking about bringing the baby home soon, wanting everything to be ready for when they get here.

Remus feels like he’s barely closed his eyes when he hears the baby crying, rolling over in bed with a groan, one hand reaching automatically towards the bassinet by the bed. When he finds it empty his eyes fly open, sitting up and frantically patting around the tangled blankets, worried that he might have fallen asleep with Teddy in his arms and is currently suffocating her until he realizes that the crying is slightly muffled, coming from the direction of the sitting room. He sags in relief, barely able to keep himself upright when the sudden surge of adrenaline drains away as quickly as it had spiked, hair still damp from his shower when he runs his hand through it, which means that he was probably only asleep for a handful of minutes. “Hush, sweetheart, or you’re going to wake your daddy up. He needs sleep, unlike you.”
