#yarn thoughts

I've had my eyes on this scrub off yarn ever since I started crocheting soap savers. It was condemned to stay on my yarn wishlist, as my local craft stores don't carry this line of Lily yarn. So imagine my joy to find a skein of this yarn in the free pile of a laundromat! I knew right away I had to make soap savers with yarn.

My first thoughts about this yarn was, "Man, this scrubby yarn is a pain in the ass to frog back! I can see why somebody gave this away." By the time I finished my second soap saver I was enjoying the challenge of scrubby yarn. It only truly became a pain in my ass when the scrubby bits were worked into the first two rounds and last two rounds of soap saver pattern as individual stitches can get snagged on itself and sometimes become difficult to see where your stitches are.

My main complaint with this yarn can get super bulky where it transitions between the two types of yarn and can get caught on itself so you have to practically yank the yarn through the stitches. Some people may not like how the two yarns are joined together, as the thread holding the two yarns together can sometimes stick out from the project.

I got about 3 and 2/3rds worth of soap savers, using a 5mm hook, before I ran out of the skein and needed another skein yarn to get a full 4. With regular cotton yarn skeins, I'm usually able to get 3 and 1/3rds worth of soap savers, using a 4.5mm hook, before adding another skein. I was beyond impressed with the yardage I got from a single skein.

I also loved how vivid the colors were on this skein. When I was searching for a supplemental yarn to finish my last soap saver (top right in the picture) I noticed soft and vivid the smooth Lily cotton yarn was compared to the loops and thread yarn in a similar color (L&T in the color-way Peacock). I would definitely considering getting more of this yarn in the other color-ways knowing how vivid the colors are. The only things holding me back would be the $5.99 price tag per skein and yarn unavailability in my local crafts stores.
