Do I crochet well enough to justify buying lots of yarn because it's in my favorite colors? (and 100% natural fibers)
Who needs to justify yarn purchases anyway? 😜

Rauma! RAUMA!! I ended up getting ‘paid’ for making a knitting friend a sweater with an entire hecking bag of Rauma, and I made three sweaters with it. (Con: it’s so rough I literally got rug burn on my tension hand 🤦🏻♀️) BUT PRO: it is so warm that when my projects were in my lap, I was sweating. These are my ‘oh fuck it’s -40° againnn’ sweaters. Another pro: it’s so durable that my freeze-baby 96lb husband has worn his Rauma sweater daily from Dec-March for the last 8 years and I’ve only had to redo the cuffs three times. Him, the ruiner-of-all-my-old-sports-shirts, destroyer-of-jackets, plague-upon-all-mittens, has kept this sweater in mostly good wear for that long. Ahhh. My goal is to eventually make the Knives Out sweater in Rauma.
Madelinetosh everything but especially ToshDK. I love their color ways but not all their bases are equal, and imo ToshDK holds up the best. You get the benefit of that glorious glossy sheen AND incredible durability for how wonderfully soft it is.
Hedgehog Fibers is my aaaaaabsolute favorite lace. It was heaven in my hands and on the needles.
(Now, would I sell a kidney for enough qiviut to make a slouchy sweater??? Absoheckingllutly.)
Also huge shout-out to Colourmart for making sweater-qualities of cashmere and silk available for UNDER $50, TOTAL. But man alive, their website gives me Bad Flashbacks and it sucks having to wait for that to get shipped from the UK.
=Poof=
I went yarn shopping today! I haven’t bought yarn in literal years, because I am poor and have yarn hanging around. There was a Big Sale, but like 98% of it was acrylic and I’m more of a wool kind of girl (read: yarn snob). They had a bit of wool, but it wasn’t superwash and I’m knitting for babies so it has to be machine washable.
My erstwhile neighbours/employers are having a boy around Rosh Hashanah (less than a month) and it’s their third child but first boy which is exciting. They’re frum (actually they’re Chassids), so it’s a Thing. Anyway, I want to make a sweater for the baby because I’m a nice person and it’s a mitzvah, and also baby snorgles may be in the offing. I’d love to go to the bris, but I dunno how private an affair it’s going to be. I’ve never been to a bris before, so that would be exciting, even if I’d be in the women’s section and thus not see anything. Anyway.
My current neighbours are also having a baby at some unspecified time, she’s barely showing so I’ve got time. I got a nice blue for both of them, and I’ll put button holes on both sides of the sweater for the one that’s still cooking, and accessorize when the kid arrives. My coworker is going to be a granny in January, so I’ve got something for that baby on the horizon as well (though she’s a knitter- still, it’s the thought).
It’s exciting to knit for babies again, the best part is everything is SMALL. My niblings are great honking children now, I don’t have patience for that shit. Everyone gets socks and hats from me. (I also got sock yarn, because sock yarn is my Achilles heel. But I owe my sister a pair of socks so it is Justified.)
which rauma yarn did you use for your husband's sweater? im 👀 at the concept of a sweater that will last 8+ years

I used the 3strikkegarn, which is ~DK but I used it like worsted bc my gauges are always weird ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Now, full disclosure this is my sweater, but I didn’t post deets on his sweater bc it’s just a basic top down yoke. His is much tighter, more like longjohns, and his sleeves are tight bc he’s a machinist (NO CAPES) but that’s why his cuffs need occasional replacement. The friend who paid me in Rauma had a cable sweater that had been her grandmother’s that was still in kicking condition. Tldr this yarn will make heirlooms if you make it with any kind of positive ease.
(It’s definitely a yarn that will need to not be worn next-to-skin, but it can be made a little softer by soaking it with a bit of hair conditioner, and it will soften up with wear. It also holds up well to being washed with wool soap, like Eucelan, and dried flat. I do mine once a year; his daily wear sweater gets washed once a month)
