Yakitori Style Tofu is a delicious vegan twist on the traditional Japanese yakitori. The tofu is marinated in a savory-sweet sauce and grilled to perfection, resulting in a flavorful and satisfying dish.
Ingredients: 1 block firm tofu, cut into cubes. 3 tablespoons soy sauce. 2 tablespoons mirin. 1 tablespoon sake. 1 tablespoon brown sugar. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. 2 green onions, thinly sliced for garnish. 1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish.
Instructions: To make the marinade, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, and brown sugar in a small bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Transfer the tofu cubes to a shallow dish and cover them with the marinade. To guarantee an even coating, let them marinate for at least thirty minutes, turning them from time to time. In a nonstick pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Tofu cubes should be taken out of the marinade; save the marinade for later use. Put the cubes of tofu onto skewers. After the pan has heated up, place the skewers on it and cook for 34 minutes on each side, or until the tofu is thoroughly heated and lightly browned. For added flavor, periodically brush the tofu with the reserved marinade while it's cooking. After cooking, take the tofu skewers out of the pan and set them aside on a platter. Before serving, garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
