finding the beach had felt like an eternity.
yet there were eyes, too many eyes, and the noise which rose from the beachgoers grated upon her. witnesses, all of them. where humans gathered, there was danger of ALL kinds-- not even the water would offer peace should they glimpse that which tempted them, and desired it in their hands. the sand was hot and unforgiving even as the sun crept towards its descent, and though sen yearned for the water, she pressed onwards parallel to it, determined to reach the solitude she desired.
it had perhaps taken longer than she would have liked, but as the noise melted away, into the roar of the waves, the tension in her shoulders lessened. ALREADY she had discarded her boots, the wind whipping her hair, tongue darting out to taste the salty spray upon her lips. it was almost home, yet...
( how unkind fate was, to tangle her in its dismal web once again )
the cove, round an outcropping of rock and bathed in shade, out of sight of the crowds of golden ward. it was perfect. tossing her wooden sword and the strange contraption the cab-driver had called a ‘phone’ into the sand, sen peeled off the outermost layer of clothing-- a coat, thick and heavy, a stolen thing which was UNLIKELY to see its original owner again now, and unceremoniously dumped it in on top before making her way to the water.
yet she did not fully submerge. fingertips ran gently over the surface of the pearls lacing her wrist. the waves lapped at her knees, and were it not for the sound of footsteps approaching, she might have gone further in.
❝who goes there?❞ a sharp call, almost accusatory. casting a glance towards her discarded things, elegant features settled to stone as she turned halfway to face the intruder, still partway into the water. she would not stray further when eyes were upon her. ❝have you followed me here, stranger?❞
