89. too many gods/goddesses, random ascended and infernal, interfering in the Halloween costume spell to try and claim someone as a champion, all of them using the loopholes other people have mentioned like "dressing as peter parker holding a plastic spider" what other methods of permanently applying a change can you think of based on a costume temporarily becoming real without introducing something like the borg.

Because really, after me rewatching the Halloween episode of Buffy after binge watching the Tales of Vox Machina I should not surprise myself with the mental images.

Ignore the difference of when the series take place in the real world, and consider the potential.

Buffy dressed as Vex’ahlia for Halloween.  Specifically, a Vex who is all dressed up for a formal occasion, so pretty dress but still deadly with her bow and arrows.

Willow being talked into dressing as Pike: that armor would completely cover her head to toe, making it hard for her to justify tossing a ghost bedsheet on over top.  Alternatively, the bed sheet could make her astral projection!Pike.  Alternatively, the shy but powerful Keyleth.

Xander could easily be either Scanlan or Vax’ildan.  On one hand, both Xander and Scanlan are the comic relief group.  Scanlan tends to be a bit of a backup to the team, and therefore it would fit Xander staying back and out of the fight while still being capable of nailing their enemies with some nasty spells.  As Vax, especially if Buffy had been Vex, that would throw quite a wrench into his interest in her.  Also, the rogue class would actually be good to keep squishy human Xander safe, for the most part.

Giles being talked into joining in the gang dressing up, but I couldn’t tell you who he’d be.  Maybe Grog (which would be hysterical in and of itself in all reality).  Or he could be Percy.

Dawn as either Pike or Keyleth, whoever Willow doesn’t go as.  Alternatively, as Velora.

Probably Tuckington. I didn’t initially ship it, but in my quest to read all the good Agent Washington fics on Ao3, I kept running into Tuckington, so I took a chance and read a few and was like, hey, yeah, I totally see this now’ and now even when I go back and watch earlier stuff, I ship it, so.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.

Part of me wishes I liked Spuffy, since it superficially matches a lot of my other ships. Also true with Delena. If I liked those, there’d also be a lot more fics I could read.

Tumblr really wants me to stop liking the Buffy fandom, that’s for sure. Hasn’t stopped me yet tho.

More fics that used the tropes common to Xander-stans, but with other characters (YAHF being chief among them - honestly, give someone else a super-powered YAHF costume. This happens but rarely - I like me a good Xander YAHF, but there’s so much room for other characters to have leftover Halloween memories or whatever.)

More quality close-in divergence fics.
