Grand Thief! Day 0 & 1
Hello! Daily Devlog for the newest XT game: Grand Thief!
The title "Grand Thief" was originally purposed a few months back, being envisioned as a heist game with a quota system akin to the one seen in lethal company. The issue? I found that really hard to make on an engine like RPG Maker, so it was paused.
When the XT started getting into roblox dev, I thought about putting Grand Thief as a Roblox game, however… I really didn't want to.
So we're back at square one. The thing that happened was the release of XTeam Presents - which inspired me to lock in.
ProtocolECHO has been clearly put on pause for the reason most XTeam games are put on pause - The scope grows and it become impossible to fulfill the original vision, and I hate half-assing things. Since the team is in no state whatever to fund ProtocolECHO, new things had to be put in place.
So, I made some changes to the Grand Thief idea - added it to the AIKOverse - The Universe ProtocolECHO and ProjectAIKO are in - and that allowed me to use the already build skills and weapons database from ProtocolECHO, saving a BUNCH of time by reusing them. It also allows me to use the same world, giving an already build foundation.
In order to accommodate for the fact that Grand Thief is still being made on RMMZ, I had to work around the limits of the engine. I'm… still kinda struggling on doing this.
See, here's the main issue that a lot of the AIKOverse games deal with - It's a sci-fi game without much sci-fi elements other than the story. I cannot simulate hacking in any way that feels "good" to me. I can transport the player to a physical maze, but, come on.
Overall that leaves the hacking element of the game that has a lot to do with hacking pretty shitty, but that's kinda something I just have to accept, at least for Grand Thief.
Right… So onto the real devlog?
DAY 1: Today, I completely finished the first floor (out of three) for the first level (also out of three). Again, Grand Thief largely uses systems established in ProtocolECHO, so… Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard?
IF you're feeling extra nice and reckless with your money, you can someone give me $10 buckaroos, all of which will go directly into the development of the AIKOverse games, as it'll allow me to buy a minigame plugin, allowing hacking to feel much better. (For trust reasons, I can always give proof of purchase or anything)
Here's the first in-game screenshot!
