Gimli was not a naturally suspicious dwarf, as dwarves went -- at least not anymore. Perhaps once he had been, but he had turned around and befriended the elves on his journey, so it was only natural that he'd give those he met the benefit of the doubt upon meeting them now.
That being said, Gimli was generally wary of pirates -- he didn't know much of sea-faring folk, but what he did know was not usually in the best light. After all, they were pirates -- professional criminals, more or less. Even so, they had not yet caused him in particular any trouble, so he bowed his head, just slightly, in greeting as the woman approached.
