Cracked Mirror
Swallowing hard, Jean brushed her hair aside as she slowly stepped through the dark Smithsonian exhibit, hair pulled back, sunglasses on, hat pulled forward.
All of the regalia, all of the apparent honor the Commandos had carried, seemed so far away and so disconnected from her life. It was hard to believe that life she had lived only seventy years ago hadn't been centuries. Here, standing with the metal arm and fresh scars...she felt so different from her picture next to Steve in that classic blue military jacket.
Often, she came here to remind herself where she'd come from and that there was a part of her still in the woman who was laughing next to Captain America. Now, though, she just couldn't quite stomach all the patriotism.
With a heavy mind, Jean led herself out of the Smithsonian and across the expansive Mall. Maybe the fresh air would do something for her.
Maybe.
[ Jane might be in the middle of fixing up somebody else, but she forgets all about them the second a hurt Bucky staggers into the medical tent. it's only a few seconds before she's right there at his side, lifting his arm over her shoulders to support him as she walks him to a bed. ]
"Oh, god, honey... C'mere. Oh my god, are you.. I've got you, angel. I'll fix this."
"Okay, so, don't be mad, and don't panic, but... ---------I lost Steve."
“I didn’t need you, you idiot. I picked you. And then you picked me back.” { throws this at u platonically}

He should probably be picking up on more than that; maybe on the fact that Bucky — apparently — picked him. For whatever reason (he still had no clue). Still, the pain twists in his stomach excruciatingly. The all-too-familiar pricking heat at the corner of his eyes starts up and he lets out a shuddering breath.
“Why? Why the hell would you pick me? I mean, I dunno if you’ve noticed, but ’m not exactly— I mean— ‘m not— I’m a really shitty person, Bucky.”
He swallows around the lump in his throat, squeezing his eyes shut.
”I was perfectly happy just— I dunno, sittin’ here in the dark for a few days — maybe a week — why y’gotta stir—” he gestures loosely, turning away, “—stir shit up. ‘M just gonna—” He turns to leave.
