“They’re turning us into monsters.”
Zak pressed his lips together. Maybe for you. I was already a monster. He couldn’t say that out loud. He couldn’t tell Max the truth about himself. Instead, he gave a little grimace.
“Not necessarily. Not all heroes have to fall, you know. Ben Tennyson has been doing fine for six years.” Not the person speaking, though. Zak had never done fine.
He lied. He got in fistfights with people who weren’t even his enemies. He screamed. He wished he could die. He didn’t hold back in fights, even at risk of killing his opponent. He raged.
He was an awful person and an even worse superhero.
“Why makes you say that, anyway?”
