Oh that is weird… we were taught similar things for the same reasons, if it’s bigger or big as a dog stop your car. Especially if it’s a deer, which are quite common around here. But I’ve noticed people will usually almost always stop for animals around here, especially pets. However out in the country… I’ve seen a lot of dead dogs and cats on the sides of roads… they’re either taught something different or don’t care :/
It’s probably a common reaction to slow down/stop if anything jumps in front of your car really ?
But there’s always assholes who decide to speed up when seeing an animal in front of them ?? Which... I don’t understand since you hurt/killed an innocent animal and probably someone’s pet AND likely damaged your car
