It was not a good week for Marinette. Not only did she mess up her leg pretty badly during a fight earlier in the week, but that same fight caused her to miss the majority of a crucial exam, to which the instructor refused to allow her to make up.

Upon seeing the failing mark on their daughter’s report, her parents had grounded her for a month, not allowing her to leave the house for anything but school. What was worse.... No friends allowed over either, for any reason.

Thank goodness she didn’t get her phone taken away because she’d be lost without her friends, though it didn’t help that once again Alya was siding with her parents. Again, the common disappearances had her suspicious, but Marinette was already great at leading her off the trail, as she did once again this time.

Things were a bit different this time. Last time she was grounded, she was just hoping to get closer to Adrien. Now she was committed to him, and she was devastated at the lack of contact out of school. A few months prior, carelessness had led to the reveal of their identities, and Marinette discovered that her crush had been pining after her this whole time. If they hadn’t been close to dating as civilians anyways, she would only suspect Adrien loved Ladybug.

Here she sat staring at the screen in her bed. It almost wasn’t fair. She pouted and aired her grievances before listening to him speak. No. It wasn’t fair. Nothing almost about it. This was the thanks she gets for constantly keeping Paris safe? This was humiliating and angering.

And then... the tears. She tried to stop them, as she would never dare to cry in front of Adrien, let alone break down, but the stresses of her life got the better of her. She wasn’t strong enough, in her eyes, to carry out her duties, and to be the perfect daughter her parents wanted her to be.

Marinette had just been minding her own business on her balcony, watering her flowers and humming. It had been a fairly good day. She had said hello to Adrien without making a stuttering mess of herself, Chloe was milder than usual, and all her homework was done well before sunset.

She had gotten much better about hearing Cat Noir-like words come out of Adrien’s mouth. In the beginning, it was difficult-- she had always separated the two in her mind. On one hand, it explained a lot. On the other hand, it certainly took some getting used to.

Yet, she liked it better this way, she could admit. The love of her life and the partner she entrusted with her life on a daily basis turned out to be the same person.

She wasn’t going to change her teasing ways, though. She loved him-- every side of him-- and he loved every part of her. The parts of her that shone in Ladybug began to appear more often in Marinette when he was around. They were comfortable with each other, and closer than she had ever been with anyone.

They must have been made for each other, she thought.

Way too long a day. Then again, Marinette had three of her four jobs today. She sighed as she paused in the park and looked over at a bench nearby.

It was very late, she really shouldn’t be out longer than she had to. It wouldn’t be safe, but a nap on the bench lit up by a street light looked all too inviting. She had been on her feet all day, her last job having tended to a bar filled with overly loud drunks.

It wasn’t like anyone was at her apartment waiting for her. Her parents had moved to Niece where they could open another branch for their Bakery and be closer to her father’s side of the family.

No, Marinette was alone now. In a single bedroom apartment with clothes she hadn’t worn for years because she had to cycle through her work uniforms. She couldn’t even remember her last day off. Even then she was sure it had been the last time her apartment had been cleaned, she had no time to do so otherwise.

Marinette secured two pokeballs to her belt and carefully placed one luxury ball in her purse. That one held the one pokemon even Alya didn’t know she had. It had been one she caught soon after gaining her miraculous and meeting Tikki.

Her school bag gained a few more potions in case of friendly battles as well as a few empty pokeballs. She had been seeing a few Sewaddle in the park lately and just knew one would help her with her designing.

It had to be one of the only two bug types she could stand. Her Ledyba being the other one. Though only Tikki knew of that one.

She checked her current two to make sure they were firmly attached. She did not want to loose the Bunnery her parents gave her when she was young, nor the Flabebe that she had first caught when moving to Paris.

Nodding as she confirmed everyone was in place she let Tikki enter her purse and left her room.
