“Chill out, I was joking.”

Another day, another teen who thought himself to be tough. The new Toy Soldier was squirming beneath the binds Nathaniel had used to tie him to a chair, and just the sight of it was arousing to the sociopath. It was that struggle, that intense power control he held over the other person that he craved. He was screaming in the boy’s face, a knife held to his carotid artery, wanting to give him a bit of mental torture before he’d eventually murder him.

There was a noise, though, outside. It almost sounded like footsteps. If Nathaniel hadn’t been in a state of pure blood lust, maybe he would have been more cautious. Maybe he would have used more duct tape. Maybe he wouldn’t have chosen this abandoned house. But, he eventually just brushed the thought from his mind, returning to his questioning of each Toy Soldier that remained.. might as well get some info while the boy was alive.

Another bloody day down in the hospital, the fighting between the government and the gangs never seeming to take a rest. But, Rosalie was grateful to be able to help - even if it was just patching people up after they’ve been broken. It was the entire reason she’d become a nurse - she wanted to give the one thing she needed most to others. She noticed when people were suffering, and she tried to ease it, and in a way, that made her feel better. It made going home a smidgen simpler. 

After her shift, the brunette had begun to walk down the streets, wandering into an area that she probably wouldn’t have even thought to go, if she hadn’t been so lost in thought. It was quiet and relatively abandoned, but the solace mended her mind - at least until she saw a figure in the distance. At first, she wanted to run. Being alone with someone she didn’t know sounded like a cause for trouble.. but instead, she held her ground, noticing some features that she recognized from a few weeks ago. “Bambi?” She called out, quiet enough that people surrounding wouldn’t hear, but loud enough for the woman to catch. “Is that you? It’s me, Rosalie. That girl that jumped off a cliff with you the other day. Do you remember me?”

After the grueling hours Sage had to spend outside of the room where Bambi was having her baby, the Toy Soldier was finally allowed to push by the man standing guard. The other girl was housed safe and sound by the same people who had taken Sage in when she had started off on her own. Their ties to the civilian resistance kept them away from prying government agents and several hidden headquarters meant Sage had no problem trusting them with Bambi through her pregnancy.

Still, Sage's heart hammered in her chest as she stepped one boot clad foot into the room and then the other. She had been antsy, hands never pausing whilst outside the room and now that she was in she struggled to keep them by her sides. There was a window letting in the first rays of morning light but hospital grade lighting had been set up and their heated beams filled the room with a static buzzing until they were turned off. 

The midwife, Mitzy, puttered around, washing her hands before she started writing things down. Sage's gaze immediately went to Bambi and did not leave. She placed a hand on the midwife's shoulder when the woman greeted her but that was all the attention diverted from the Lost Boy. She heard the door close and then they were alone.

Sage had new sunglasses propped on her nose, shielding her eyes from the vibrantly blinding rays of the burning orb currently focusing particularly on Battery City from on high. A floppy sun hat spent the hours atop her head allowing only shade to touch her face. Both items were 'borrowed' from people who wouldn't miss them. The girl herself was draped over a broken wicker chair on the balcony of a once ritzy hotel. After the years, it'd mellowed out and integrated into a humbler life amongst the middle class citizens. It overlooked a shopping district equipped with a few eateries, bakeries, and coffee shops.

There was enough foot traffic for Sage to people watch and she was up high enough that no one thought to look up. A perfect vantage point if she were to really think about it. She sighed and reached for another ice cube from the bucket she'd filled up just a few minutes earlier, popping the frozen cube of water in her mouth. She peered over the edge of the balcony again and spotted a brunette walking fast paced, her gait was familiar and being only three stories up, Sage could just catch her side profile when the girl looked behind herself. Overly excited, Sage called out to the girl, "Bam- oh!" The ice cube fell out of her mouth and she watched it fall to the ground, shattering at Bambi's feet. "Sorry!"
