HOLY SMOKES! They are off! Nervous as can be, but excited to see their classrooms, friends, teachers. Liam will be one of four in his classroom, and Huck one of eight - Huck in a school he has never even set foot in and Liam on the second floor (big deal!). Tonight, we celebrate with take out and cake. Yesterday, Liam had a virtual field trip to a dairy farm. The morning started with tears as he processed (again) why he couldn’t get in an actual school bus and be with his friends in person at the farm; but, he quickly got excited when he saw his classmates virtually getting on the bus, driving to the farm, and meeting the dairy cows. . I am blown away by how hard his teachers are working to make this e-learning successful. They are so creative and loving. We went to school last week to pick up the boys’ things. They were so excited to see what they’d left there - artwork, headphones, recess toys, smocks. . At the bottom of Huck’s trash bag, was this gift from his Kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Cifelli retired last year, and yet she came back to school - in the middle of a pandemic - to leave Huck (and I assumed her other pupils from that kindergarten class) a graduation gift and message. You can tell from the picture that he is as happy as a clam - and I of course am behind the camera SOBBING. . I have been overwhelmed during this season at the kindness of our teachers in Cheltenham, and I am sure it is an example of what is happening all around the world with educators. I’m so grateful to all of you for trying to make this time memorable and fun in spite of all the difficulties we are experiencing.
