He rounds the corner, tucking his bag back onto his shoulder. The hotel is surprisingly nice, not glamorous by any standards, but Ceydran has spent many a night in backwoods motels so the linens here should at least be freer of cigarette burns. The weight of his backpack is comforting, but there’s an unease in his step. He’d tried to put this life behind him, this extra locks on the hotel door life, this twice tied shoelaces life, this everything plus extra knives in your pockets life, he’s found himself too close to it once more. It was nice to pretend that he is not that person, that he has a choice of any other life.

The inset lights illuminate a figure that has never tried to lie to himself like that. Soren’s teeth catch the light as he notices Ceydran, untucks himself from the wall and leans forward. He still has an inordinate amount of blood on him, dried from the bus ride but shockingly disgusting to anyone that wasn’t used to it. Luckily, Ceydran has blood of his own on his sleeves, so he simply nods at Soren. No use trying to pretend like they are not beasts anymore.
