“Apple WWDC 2018 Reveals Smartphone Anti-Addiction Features”

At Apple’s Worldwide Develops’ Conference (WWDC) in San Jose, Apple announced a set of tools meant to help individuals overcome smartphone addiction. Similar as to how Fitbit encourages users to pursue physical activity through a competition with oneself, Apple also motivates real behaviour change. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president, outlined the following tools in today’s keynote:

Do Not Disturb: The revision will not only silence all alerts, but prevent the notifications from being shown, even on the lock screen, until enabled. Furthermore, Do Not Disturb will have timing and geofencing features so that users can disable notifications for an hour or until they leave a certain location such as school. Notifications: In addition to notification management in the settings, users will now be able to change app notifications directly from the lock screen. Screen Time: A weekly device-usage report will be generated that includes time spent in specific applications, the applications that send the most notifications, and the frequency of phone usage. Users will be able to set limits on time that can be allocated for general phone or specific app usage. The phone will alert the user of remaining time and prevent users from returning to the app when the allocated time is complete. Parental Controls: Parents will be able to view activity reports that detail their children’s phone usage and parents may create allowances for screen time. Con iOS 12 Apple proverà ad "educare" i propri utenti.

Durante il WWDC 2018 abbiamo sottolineato il fatto di come Apple anche con iOS 12 abbia davvero posto l’attenzione sul software, ma ancora di più su chi lo utilizza: i suoi utenti.

L’azienda di Cupertino non ha dato vita a semplice campagna di marketing ma con Scorciatoie di Siri e Screen Time, libertà e informazione di utilizzo del dispositivo hanno fatto un passo avanti.

Screen Time per educarsi.  

Tema caldo di questi tempi, modo e tempo di utilizzo della moderna tecnologia. Banalmente quanto tempo noi, ma anche i nostri figli, trascorriamo davanti a un monitor, per quanto quello che stiamo facendo possa essere professionale o educativo.

Apple ha percorso due strade in questa direzione che sono entrambe molto interessanti. La prima è quella di potenziare e ampliare la funzione “Non disturbare”. Dall’altro Screen Time, tool che monitora cosa e quanto facciamo sul nostro dispositivo mobile.

Siri ci aiuterà anche nella gestione delle notifiche. Ovvero il modo in cui reagiremo alla singola notifica, permetterà di darci informazioni su quanto sia davvero necessaria. Spesso succedere di ricevere notifiche da app che non utilizziamo spesso. Una volta poi sbloccato iPhone (iPad, ecc..) non possiamo fare a meno di continuare ad utilizzarlo per scopi totalmente differenti dal motivo per cui la notifica iniziale aveva richiamato la nostra attenzione.
