Padparadscha let out a loud grunt as they pulled up a floor board, their hands gripping the wooden plank as they pushed it to the side. “Hey Rutile, which herb did you need?”

The doctor walked into the room with a child sleeping in their shoulder, drool coming out of the corner of their small mouth. They sat next to they partner and looked into the small opening in the flooring, reaching in and pulling out a small handful of herbs that they needed. “I think this is what they wanted.” They muttered to themselves, a small grunt leaving their lips as they got back up. “I’m going to give this to Lapis, do you want to stay here?”

The red head placed the board back where it was before they stood up, giving them a small smile as they sat down on the bed. “Yea, I can stay here. What about Carne, do you want me to take care of them while you’re out?”

Rutile glanced back at the child before shook their head, heading back to the open doorway. “No, it’s fine, I can go ahead and take care of them. They’re probably not going to wake up anytime soon anyways.”

“Alright, if you say so.”

“I’ll be back.” They smiled softly before they left their house and went outside. They squint their eyes as the bright sun beat down on them, a sigh leaving their lips as they started to walk.

It’s been almost 5 years since Rutile started to live with Pad, and things have both been a combination of good and stressful. First on the list was the fact the both of them decided to get married even if they didn’t know much about each other. That night instead of having sex— which they already had a few months before and the other was already pregnant— they just talked and got to know each other more. And a few months later their first child, Carnelian, was born and everything was fine for them.

They were feeling pretty confident about their position until recently a woman told them that they didn’t have enough children for God to love. So now they have a 4 year old child and another one that’s going to be coming anytime soon.

Along with their getting to know each other in different ways, the both of them also got to be well acquainted with their neighbors. Lapis Lazuli and Euclase were a married couple that were both convicted witches that fled to England as well. Lapis was caught for both medical herbs and banned books while Euc was caught only for having books. It was also pretty obvious that the blue gem was caught multiple times in different places, having scars from The Heretics Fork under their chin and their collar bone and more along their arms and their back. Both Rutile and Padparadscha were pretty sure that they were actually a witch from the amount of times they were caught and escaped.

Both Lapis and Euc also ran a small store that sold miscellaneous items that people surprisingly needed in their lives that they didn’t know they needed.

“Lapis?” They called as they walked into a small store and looked inside.

“Coming!” It wasn’t long before the blue gem came from around a corner, their hair that was put up in a ponytail following them as they walked. “Ah, did you bring it?”

Rutile nodded, reaching into their pocket and pulled out the small handful of medicinal herbs that they had with them. Lapis’ lips turned upwards as they took it from them, putting it in the pocket in the apron that had around their waist. “Where’s Euc?”

“They’re in the back looking for a book, did you want to see them for something?”

“Yea, Padparadscha said that they wanted a book that they had.”

“You still call them by their first name?” Lapis asked as they started to head into the back of the little shop.

“Yea, is that weird?”

“Yes, it is. Chrysoberyl doesn’t even call Alexandrite by their first name and Obsidian called Red Beryl Red, you’re the only people who called them by their first name.Considering that you guys are married and you guys fu- had sex twice. It’s about time you shorten their name before people get suspicious.” They explained, stopping themselves from swearing as Carnelian lifted their head and opened their eyes to sleepily look around the room.

Rutile looked at the child on their shoulder before they sighed and looked at the other, “I *guess* could try to call them by a shorter name.”

“You should, it’ll be easier for you.” The blue gem said with a smile before they started to head into the back, “stay here, I’ll be back with Euc,”

“Alright.” The doctor nodded, watching the other disappear in the back as they set their child on the ground. Their hazel eyes watched the smaller human wander around the small space they were in and looked around. They listened to the couple talk before they sat down on the ground, their fingers running through the child’s reddish hair.

A smile grew on their face as they moved to hug them, “were’s Pa?” They asked, making their parent laugh at their bad pronunciation of their names. The child called the redhead Pa since it’s shorter and they can’t pronounce d’s no matter how hard they tried and called the other Ruti.

“They’re at home, we’re getting something from Lapis.”

“Lapi?” They asked as their slightly chubby hands touched their cheeks. “Boo?”

“Yea, we’re getting a book for them.” Rutile held their face before they brought their lips to their forehead. They let go of them when they heard the blue gem come back from the back of the place.
