For my money, the creepiest thing on the Internet is CNN’s doomsday video.
See, back during the cold war, back when everyone was sure they were going to die in a nuclear war the way we’re now sure we’re going to die of Climate, Ted Turner, CEO of CNN, got a video ready to go in case the world was about to end. He had decided on and prepared a video to be the last thing Americans saw before we died en masse, a soundtrack for the end of the world. In fact, it’s still in their system, labeled “HFR [hold for release] till end of the world confirmed”. It’s the US Navy orchestra playing “Nearer My God To Thee”, and it gives me chills every time I hear it.
