Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal VizierĀ [12]
Thereās a whole bit Iāll write about Jafar and Shahrazad but for now, I just want to say: thereās no way Aladdinās 32 in the movie.

At least its supporting my theory that Agrabah has extreme classes.
Also, even this musical can't escape the ideology (whoever has the gold makes the rules) and character of Jafar (rule with an iron fist)
(*snort* opium den. Wait. Is that Orientalism? How can critique if it is; look at the tropes in Aladdin.)

Is this vizier a spoof of Jafar and his design? The eyeliner makes me think yes.

Oh,Ā the one stealing bread isĀ a boy. (I think?)
Kind of have to love Jafar critiquing Omar (which is weird, since thatās the name of the other market seller in the series), for trying to cut someone's hand off, since I always thought in-movie that existed because of Jafar.

Omg, are they going to use the Marketplace scene for Jafar and some romance?
Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier [4]
Its amusing how a lot of the logistics of Aladdin are brought up: like having one vizier, thatt we never seen any servants. Its kind of Aladdin but with societal realism. And Disney critique and allusions.

I was thinking about antagonists and @cipherpolfiles mentioned it awhile back and I have some free time, so...)
So, the first song: the references to ājust dreaming a little harderā to get what you want, rather than being proactive, reminds me of two things:
1. the Disney sentimentality that wishing is all you need to do to get what you want.
In context of the specific movies (especially Cinderella, which is the one I think peopleĀ are often citing,Ā or at least the movie with the song āA Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makesā which people cite, even if thatās not precisely what the song is about), I feel itās more than wishing gets you what you want.
Wishing gives you either what you partially want (PatF and Pinnochio) or only comes as a last resort (Cinderella). Interestingly, this really brought to mind how much Histoire dāAladdin is really, despite having a different ATU, very similar to Cinderella (especially Disneyās interpretation, which re-enforces this undercurrent theme of (white) men relating to the Aladdin story)
2. a general critique of the original Aladdin story
-- namely, that Aladdin gets everything he wants from his wishes because heās the only one who can get into the cave. No reason is ever given; Aladdin is just special.
