Hiya! All is fucked and work is actually going well (while still driving me crazy of course) but things’ll improve eventually. I mean they have to right? right???
This is a bit late and I’d promised previews on another ask but Ima post em here and tag it later instead 😝 I’m gonna try to get back into writing, I promise. Hope you enjoy!
Over the Moon
“Oh no…” Finn muttered, rolling his eyes. Rae’s head whipped towards him, her hair swiping him across the ear.
“What?” she accused, Finn rubbing his ear with a scowl.
“They locked us in.”
“Shit.” Finn glanced at Rae as her breathing shortened, her eyes widening.
“For fuck’s sake, I’m not gonna attack ya,” he snapped. Rae’s panic shifted.
“Don’t have a go at me,” she shot back loudly, her arms crossed defensively.
“Chill out—”
“Don’t tell me to chill out, this is all your fault!”
“Fucking wha—No, it’s yours!”
“Alright, lovebirds, we’re off.” Chop interrupted. Through the slats of the closet door, they watched him tip an imaginary hat before wrapping an arm around Izzy’s neck. “Try and get along by the time we get back, yeah?”
Finn rattled the door, the two of them cursing at their retreating figures but their protests were completely ignored.
“Anything good at the cinema?” Archie’s voice followed them out of his room and the two slumped back, Rae’s shooting him a dirty look.
“This is bullshit.”
***
Half an hour passed in angry silence. His nan had always told him if he didn’t have anything nice to say, say nothing at all. And he had nothing nice to say to Rae Earl.
She didn’t seem to feel that same sentiment.
“Unbelievable,” she sighed roughly, leaning against the wall.
Finn shuffled his feet and looked at the floor. They stood uncomfortably close, surrounded on all sides. He felt sweat drop down his temple and he shucked his jacket off with a huff, trying to sit in the cramped space. Rae immediately hugged the wall, looking him over.
“The hell are you doing?” He adjusted himself on the floor, raising his brows at her.
“What’s it look like?”
“Such a prick…” She bit her lip, her head shaking slowly.
“Just sit the fuck down, Rae.”
“Excuse me?” she scoffed, her eyes narrowing.
“Sit. The fuck. Down.” She stared defiantly and he shrugged, folding his jacket into a pillow and resting against it, his eyes closing, “Whatever.”
He couldn’t hold back a smirk as he heard her let out a disgruntled grunt, her flannel coming off a moment later and she sat beside him, moving as far away as possible.
“What, d’ya think I have cooties or something?”
“You might,” she retorted, “I dunno where you’ve been.”
“Ha ha.”
Rae moved her flannel over her lap, resting her arms on top.
“It stinks in here.”
“Yeah, I add that boy smell so you know you’re in a bloke’s closet.”
“Somehow I’m not surprised you bring girls in here.”
“I don’t—” She smirked and he rolled his eyes, “You’re such a…” He trailed off and she nudged him.
“Such a what?” she prodded, poking his shoulder hard, “C’mon, Nelson.” Seeing his annoyance grow, she went on, “Spit it out!”
“Dickhead!”
His voice rang out loud and rough in the small space and Rae’s eyes widened before she broke out laughing. He couldn’t help but join, his lips reluctantly curling.
“Jesus,” she giggled, “You’re the dickhead.”
Silence fell as they caught their breath, slight smiles on their faces. Finn half shrugged.
“Wanna play a game?

You're a Wolf
Finn pulled the tent flap aside, squinting through a haze of incense and cigarette smoke. An older woman emerged from the cloud, her deep red lips twisted into a sly smirk. It faded as she took him in.
“Ah, you’re nought but a wolf pup—don’t see a lot of kids wanting readings,” she said gravelly, raising her brows.
“How’d you—”
“I know a great many things…” She tapped her temple with a wink, “Y’want your mark read, yeah?”
Finn nodded and bit the corner of his lip, slightly intimidated despite his skepticism. She held out her hand.
“Ten quid.” He sighed and handed it over before dropping to the chair opposite her.
“Let’s see it.” Finn lifted his sleeve and held his arm out, exposing his inner wrist. An inky black bass clef was revealed, a stark contrast against his skin.
She took his hand in one hand, her other moving over the mark. Her fingers circled it, feather-light as they traced the thick lines. He watched as her eyes closed and she took a deep breath.

Wrong Date III
“Chlo mentioned you were a year ahead of us,” Rae started, sipping her snakebite as Finn nodded.
“Yeah I was,” he replied with a shrug, “Ended up moving to Leeds for a bit.”
“What’s in Leeds?” she asked, her glass hiding her mouth as she looked him over.
“Something different…” he sighed, his head tilting as he glanced over the bar, “Stamford isn’t exactly the land of opportunity.” Rae nodded.
“I went to Bristol for uni—couldn’t wait to get out of here.”
“And now we’re back,” he drawled, raising his Fosters to cheers. She laughed and raised hers.
“Right…”
In the silence following, he reached into his pocket, slapping a few 20p on the table.
“For the jukebox—this music’s doing my head in,” he explained, starting to stand. She snatched them away, shaking her head.
“I’ll do it.” At his raised brow, she continued, “You can’t be trusted.”
“So that’s how it’s gonna be, is it?”
“That’s how it’s gonna be.” She stuck her tongue out at him, starting to back away as she scoffed, “You and your crap reggae.”

Fade Out
“Dad said you stopped by the other day,” Finn started, pausing when Rae bit her lip and looked down, “What did you want?”
Rae looked up, meeting Finn’s eyes and she smiled tearfully, her eyes shining.
“I wanted you,” she sighed, her voice low and shaky. Finn’s eyes widened and he bit his cheek as a tear fell down Rae’s cheek.
“I’m so sorry for that night you came over, I should’ve said something,” she said, her hands clasping in front of her, “I never wanted you to leave, I never wanted any of this.”
Finn shook himself out of his dumbstruck state, Rae continuing to babble in front of him. He stepped up to her, his hands rising to wipe the tears from her face.
“--so stupid to break up, I should’ve just talked to you,” she continued and Finn moved closer, his thumb swiping at a final tear, his other hand cupping her neck. Her lips parted to speak again and Finn leaned forward, cutting her off.
