The kill behind the crown
A little thought that spiraled a bit when thinking on Luffy at loguetown and Luffy at Marineford.
Luffy has this sort of bittersweet atmosphere when it comes to his death and others and I sort of just thought maybe, ju7st a bit that this might be why?

There was a certain sort of understanding Luffy had, that made his journey a little easier than most thought.
To be pirate king is to be dead.
As such Luffy found it easier to travel, to risk his life.
There wasn't much else to say aside that, and why should there be? Gol D. Roger traveled the world, found all it had to offer, left behind the One Piece, and then died.
He became king after, not before.
So as such the reasoning was quite simple, Monkey D. Luffy would traverse the world, find all it has to offer, complete all his Nakama's dreams, find the one piece!
Then he would die, and then, only then, would he become King.
And then, only then, would he complete his dream.
he had known this truth before he had known it was his, had known this since his grandfather had told him what happened to pirates, to the king of them. Had known this since Shanks had said to be king was to be freest on the seas. Had known this since Ace had looked to his father and saw death.
Luffy had known since day one to be king was to be dead.
Because the freest thing in the world is death, so if Luffy wanted to be the pirate king-
He would have to be dead.
